Some of the floated changes include only letting lawmakers hold professionally-managed mutual funds or blind trusts, while others would ban them from holding stocks that pertain to members\u2019 respective committees.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for McCarthy did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy\u2019s actions come as an Insider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/conflicted-congress-key-findings-stock-act-finances-investing-2021-12\">report<\/a> outlined how scores of lawmakers and staffers may have infringed on the STOCK Act, a law signed by former President Barack Obama seeking to limit potential conflicts of interest or insider trading.<\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Nancy Pelosi <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/15\/nancy-pelosi-defends-trading-stock-act\/\">defended<\/a> members\u2019 ability to trade stocks in December, saying that they \u201cshould be able to participate\u201d in a \u201cfree market economy.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/10\/stock-trading-congress-nancy-pelosi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: POLL: Overwhelming Majority Of Americans Say Lawmakers Should Be Banned From Trading Stocks)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7342942\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7342942\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy in December. Democratic Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff reportedly is set to lead the way on a bill similar to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/336\">TRUST in Congress Act<\/a>, which seeks to ban members and their close family from trading and has bipartisan support.<\/p>\n<p>Stock trades have gotten members of both parties in hot water in the past.
