The heavy snow caused dozens of vehicles to be involved in a pileup on Interstate 64 outside of Mount Sterling, Kentucky, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CBSNews\/status\/1479382348244430849\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CBS News<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>An image shared on Facebook purportedly shows a scene from the pileup in which dozens of cars and several semi-trucks can be seen haphazardly clustered together on a snow-covered highway. \u201cMount Sterling, Kentucky 1-6-22 4 PM,\u201d reads the post\u2019s caption.&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/03\/05\/fact-check-great-sphinx-covered-snow-egypt-japan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Image Show The Great Sphinx Covered In Snow In Egypt?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In reality, Check Your Fact found through a reverse image search that the photo predates the recent large-scale wreck in Kentucky by several years. The Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apimages.com\/metadata\/Index\/Highways-Shutdown\/5751f1ade3eb4dc7bd4f5ecee89ffeb2\/1\/0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">published<\/a> the same photo in December 2013 explaining that it showed a pileup on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Reading, Pennsylvania. \u201cVehicles are piled up at mile marker 286 on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, a mile outside Reading, Pa., on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013,\u201d reads part of the image\u2019s caption.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have checked with our engineering personnel that is responsible for Montgomery County,\u201d Kentucky <a href=\"https:\/\/transportation.ky.gov\/DistrictSeven\/Pages\/District-7---Office-Personnel.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Highway District 7<\/a> Public Information Officer Natasha Lacy told Check Your Fact in an email. \u201cTo their knowledge, this photo is not valid for the incident that occurred in Mt. Sterling on Thursday, January 6.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Real images of the Jan. 6 pileup close to Mount Sterling were posted by Kentucky CBS affiliate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wkyt.com\/gallery\/2022\/01\/06\/pile-up-i-near-mt-sterling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WKYT<\/a>.
