Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), and McCarthy said that this year in the lead-up to the midterm elections they and other Republicans will be introducing a number of legislative proposals to stop Silicon Valley\u2019s censorship of conservative views. McCarthy also noted that Breitbart News has been a leading voice on making Republicans aware of the problem, pointing out that years ago before many realized that tech giants like Google, Facebook, Twitter, and others were targeting conservatives this publication was sounding the alarm.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been working on this issue for a long time and what\u2019s interesting is\u2014Breitbart. I\u2019ve got to give Breitbart a lot of credit,\u201d McCarthy said when asked about Big Tech. \u201cWhen I was in the majority as the majority leader, it was Breitbart that was in my office early on talking about what Big Tech was doing to you personally. (TOBIAS SCHWARZ\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>McCarthy\u2019s comments came during the latest On The Hill long-form video special, taped in December at an Eastern Market establishment on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI brought in the CEOs of these companies to testify,\u201d McCarthy said. \u201cThe way I look at it is your information is like private property. If they\u2019re going to monetize it, you should be able to get a piece of it. But you should be able to delete it, and you should be able to transfer it. The other thing is they cannot be picking and choosing what is on a platform if they want liability protection. (Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>If and when Republicans are back in the majority\u2014and thereby back in the driver\u2019s seat on policy discussions\u2014the GOP base is going to expect serious action from them on Big Tech. McCarthy articulating the issue and GOP views on it is one thing, but turning it into actionable policy\u2014especially when fighting against an executive branch in President Joe Biden\u2019s Democrat administration\u2014is entirely another. How McCarthy does on this front is going to be one of the biggest tests of his longevity atop House Republicans. You\u2019re going to watch legislation get rolled out that changes the course, that protects us on this,\u201d McCarthy added. \u201cI\u2019ve watched our members work strongly about this. This goes to the core\u2014we have a task force that Jim Jordan leads on this about freedoms. If you\u2019re going to deny us a right to a voice, you\u2019re going against the First Amendment.
