Get ready to fight back!<\/p>\n<p>Posted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/102342988384872\">Education First Alliance NC<\/a> on Thursday, January 6, 2022<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>The call to halt the funding of the program came within days of the State School Board\u2019s approval of a contract with University of North Carolina (UNC) Chapel-Hill\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/simbli.eboardsolutions.com\/Meetings\/Attachment.aspx?S=10399&amp;AID=307899&amp;MID=12048\">Frank Porter Graham\u2019s Child Development Center<\/a>, a press release stated, adding the $7 million in funding was granted from the IDEA Preschool Handicapped Grant awarded to North Carolina by the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) at the U.S. Education Department.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this vote, North Carolina\u2019s schools became the most radically divisive education system in America,\u201d said Sloan Rachmuth, president of Education First Alliance, who added:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Yes, we are seeing critical race theory in schools elsewhere, but it\u2019s mainly taught in the higher grades. But preying on disabled 3 year old children \u2013 getting them to participate in a political movement, and to hate themselves based on skin color in the process, shows our public schools to be more morally corrupt than all others.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the statement, the equity and cultural responsiveness training was provided to special needs pre-K teachers through the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and aligned with the NC Professional Teacher Standards.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The statement notes especially:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>During the program\u2019s \u201cIdentity\u201d module, teachers are told that whiteness affects everything outside of the classroom, and that the goal of pre-K is to \u201cdeconstruct\u201d whiteness for all students. Deconstructing whiteness, they explain, is challenging whiteness and building skills to be accountable to people of color.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the education groups, the program encourages three-to-five-year-olds to \u201cquestion scientific, social and historical facts,\u201d as well as to \u201cquestion issues of power and control in their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One slide presented in the press release states the program seeks to build \u201cracial identity\u201d in young children by urging teachers to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Encourage the children to question social, scientific, and historical facts. We want children to question whether information is true.<\/li>\n<li>Talk with children about their identities.<\/li>\n<li>Present materials that show children of color in positions of power or authority as main characters.<\/li>\n<li>Learn and teach about people of color all year; ensure that children of color see themselves in the curriculum.<\/li>\n<li>Provide challenging instruction that encourages children to question what they see around them including issues of power and control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">James Lindsay&nbsp;says that CRT activists&#8217; goal is to dismantle the U.S. and establish &#8220;a total dictatorship&#8221; of the &#8220;anti-racists.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3wItLDUYs0\">https:\/\/t.co\/3wItLDUYs0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1479907147077103621?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 8, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Another section of the training reportedly states children are never safe from pervasive racism. Teachers must understand that the idea of having \u201ccontrol\u201d over a preschool class is based on white norms and is associated with white supremacist thinking. Teachers are urged, instead, to use social-emotional teaching and learning.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The grassroots education groups <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ednc.org\/2022-01-07-state-superintendent-catherine-truitt-declares-2022-the-year-of-the-workforce\/\">observed<\/a> Friday that when state board member Amy White raised concerns to Superintendent Catherine Truitt about the programming for the early childhood teachers, Truitt <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/51PtHP4f9Kc?t=5350\">said<\/a> the center\u2019s anti-racist work is \u201cwholly separate from anything they are doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Tetreault, project manager for the Office of Early Learning, said he could not speak to the philosophy of the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Center.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The center, however, <a href=\"https:\/\/fpg.unc.edu\/news\/fpgs-statement-anti-racism\">released<\/a> an \u201canti-racism\u201d statement in June 2020:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We see the fingerprint of deep-seated systemic disparities and inequities fueled by institutionalized racism, hate, and intolerance. These attitudes permeate all evils in our society, at all levels, and degrade our collective humanity. If one of us feels unsafe and vulnerable, we are all vulnerable. Justice and equity can only work for everyone, or they do not work for anyone.<\/p>\n<p>We will redouble our efforts to enhance our support for diversity and inclusion within our organization and our work at all levels. We commit to doing our share to eliminate disparities in our community representation and our work in the study, evaluation, and practice arenas within child and family research, and we will continue to work to inform policies that aim to eliminate such disparities. This is our shared purpose. This is the mission of our work.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Former HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson on Sunday blasted Critical Race Theory, calling it a \u201cbunch of garbage.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/XsQitt9tSc\">https:\/\/t.co\/XsQitt9tSc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1412098728861786113?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 5, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The education groups noted the center <a href=\"https:\/\/nceln.fpg.unc.edu\/sites\/nceln.fpg.unc.edu\/files\/resources\/E3%20Cohort%20Application%20Questions.docx\">scrubbed<\/a> its website of slides and other training materials soon after the state school board meeting adjourned.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cHiding this controversial material after questions from the public were raised shows the corrupt and ideological intentions behind these trainings,\u201d said Dr. Nancy Andersen, North Carolina leader of No Left Turn in Education, adding:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I showed the Superintendent document after document from these trainings and that she chose to defend using $7M for the divisive program, rather than delaying the vote as she promised, speaks volumes about the incompetence of the education leadership in the state.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In September, North Carolina Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncleg.gov\/Sessions\/2021\/Bills\/House\/PDF\/H324v5.pdf\">passed<\/a> House Bill 324, a measure that would have limited how teachers may discuss racial concepts in the classroom, through the state legislature. Gov. Roy Cooper (D), however, <a href=\"https:\/\/abc11.com\/critical-race-theory-crt-in-schools-what-is\/11012907\/\">vetoed<\/a> the bill.<\/p>\n<p>In April, the Biden education department&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2021\/04\/19\/2021-08068\/proposed-priorities-american-history-and-civics-education#print\">proposed<\/a>&nbsp;a rule urging the development of \u201cculturally responsive teaching\u201d in American History and Civics and held up the \u201c1619 Project\u201d as a model for schools to teach children the United States is fundamentally a racist nation.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">AG Merrick Garland\u2019s son-in-law is a co-founder of a company that promotes the tenets of Critical Race Theory, including systemic racism. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kHplgBhqvx\">https:\/\/t.co\/kHplgBhqvx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1446198950315405322?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 7, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The U.S. Education Department announced the rule is in keeping with President Joe Biden\u2019s executive order,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2021\/01\/25\/2021-01753\/advancing-racial-equity-and-support-for-underserved-communities-through-the-federal-government\">titled<\/a>&nbsp;\u201cAdvancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n[T]here is growing&nbsp;acknowledgement [SIC] of the importance of including, in the teaching and learning of our country\u2019s history, both the consequences of slavery, and the significant contributions of Black Americans to our society.
