Every one of us has the power and the responsibility to make a difference in this fight. Lives are depending on it,\u201d he said at the time.<\/p>\n<p>What is more, Murthy stated at the time that \u201cthose of us who may have larger platforms\u201d bear a \u201cgreater responsibility to think about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We know that the dramatic increase in the speed \u2014 speed and scale of spreading misinformation has, in part, been enabled by these platforms. So that\u2019s why in this advisory today, we are asking them to step up. We know they have taken some steps to address misinformation, but much, much more has to be done. And we can\u2019t wait longer for them to take aggressive action because it\u2019s costing people their lives.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>More recently, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) &nbsp;also prioritized this, announcing a&nbsp;\u201cCOVID-19 Emergency Response Package\u201d that will, in part, fund \u201cmore partnerships to fight misinformation\u201d:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Governor of California says nothing about funding for treatments, but will be funding \u201cpartnerships to fight misinformation\u201d (payoffs to corporate media &amp; BigTech to enforce regime narratives) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Zjyp6dkNNX\">https:\/\/t.co\/Zjyp6dkNNX<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Christina Pushaw \ud83d\udc0a (@ChristinaPushaw) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChristinaPushaw\/status\/1480507760978636806?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 10, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Biden White House appeared to drop the ball on its own efforts, as it failed to correct coronavirus-related misinformation spread by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou guys have been very aggressive countering COVID misinformation,\u201d&nbsp;Fox News\u2019s Peter Doocy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/10\/white-house-refuses-to-criticize-sonia-sotomayor-coronavirus-misinformation\/\">said<\/a> during Monday\u2019s press briefing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo what do you guys think about COVID misinformation coming from the Supreme Court and Sonia Sotomayor\u2019s false claim that over 100,000 children are in serious condition, many on ventilators?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the White House\u2019s self-proclaimed goal of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/press-briefings\/2021\/07\/15\/press-briefing-by-press-secretary-jen-psaki-and-surgeon-general-dr-vivek-h-murthy-july-15-2021\/\">combatting<\/a> such misinformation, White House press secretary Jen Psaki blatantly refused to offer a correction.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWell, I\u2019m not going to speak to Supreme Court arguments or statements made in those arguments,\u201d she said before deflecting:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>But I will tell you that what is at stake here is our effort to protect health workers and, most importantly, protect patients with the CMS rule and also to make workplaces safer with the OSHA rule, which we have confidence in our legal argument for. As of last Wednesday, there were just over 4,000 children in the hospital due to the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>As the&nbsp;<em>Washington Post<\/em> <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2022\/01\/06\/covid-omicron-variant-live-updates\/#link-MYZW36KLJRCZTGIEY4OZCTB75E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>More than 4,000 children were hospitalized with covid-19 across the nation Wednesday, Washington Post figures show, marking a new high that towers above previous peaks set during the summer when the delta variant was driving up infections.<\/p>\n<p>The tally, which includes confirmed as well as suspected pediatric covid-19 patients, reflects a steep rise in infections in that group. Less than two weeks ago, on Christmas, fewer than 2,000 children were in hospitals with covid.<\/p>\n<p>The seven-day average of pediatric hospitalizations was slightly lower at 3,713. Hospitalizations of adults are also rising rapidly.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Sotomayor\u2019s response prompted a retort from Sen.
