Using a reverse image search, Check Your Fact traced the image back to an April 2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/ames\/kepler\/nasas-kepler-discovers-first-earth-size-planet-in-the-habitable-zone-of-another-star\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press release<\/a> published by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) titled, \u201cNASA\u2019s Kepler Discovers First Earth-Size Planet In The \u2018Habitable Zone\u2019 of Another Star.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The image\u2019s caption states \u201cThe artist\u2019s concept depicts Kepler-186f , the first validated Earth-size planet to orbit a distant star in the habitable zone.\u201d The NASA press release describes how this newfound planet \u201cresides in the Kepler-186 system, about 500 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cygnus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The concept image is credited to NASA, as well as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seti.org\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SETI Institute<\/a>, a non-profit research organization focused on \u201clife beyond Earth.\u201d The image is also credited to NASA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpl.nasa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jet Propulsion Laboratory<\/a> (JPL), which is managed by the California Institute of Technology.<\/p>\n<p>In an email to Check Your Fact, Michele Johnson, director of the office of communications at NASA\u2019s Ames Research Center, said, \u201cThe image looks remarkably similar to an artist\u2019s concept of Kepler-186f.
