Ron Johnson (R-WI) said he opted to run for a third term for the U.S. Senate because Democrat lawmakers are governing in a \u201cvery divisive and destructive manner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/ron-johnson-reelection-destructive-dem-governance\">told<\/a> Fox News on Monday.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<p>It was definitely my intention \u2013 it was my strong preference, both mine and my wife\u2019s, to serve that second term and go home. But I did not anticipate Democrats getting total control of government, or them governing in the very divisive and destructive manner that they are governing.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never walked away from doing difficult things so, I can\u2019t walk away. I am in a position where I think I can help and make a real difference,\u201d the senator continued, adding:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The No. 1 thing is, we have lost confidence, legitimately, with the FBI and the Justice Department and their corrupt investigation of Trump; health care agencies and their miserable failure of handling COVID; the media, for the most part; big tech giants \u2013 people have lost confidence in these institutions that are vital to a free democracy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In 2016, Johnson promised that he would only serve two terms, but he changed his mind because he \u201cdid not anticipate Democrats getting total control of government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Wisconsin Republican previously served as the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bottom line is I just truly love this country, I love the people in it, the folks of Wisconsin,\u201d Johnson told the news outlet. \u201cOur nation is in trouble, it is being torn apart, and I think I can help the situation, which is why I have decided to run again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnson first announced his long awaited decision in an opinion editorial for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/why-im-seeking-a-third-senate-term-11641695974?st=ziq91k7l1ilvf65\"><em>Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a>, writing that he will \u201ccontinue to fight for freedom in the public realm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a decision I haven\u2019t made lightly,\u201d the lawmaker wrote. \u201cHaving already experienced a growing level of vitriol and false attacks, I certainly don\u2019t expect better treatment in the future. For my campaign to succeed, I will need the support of every American who values the truth and refuses to allow lies and distortions to prevail.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
