Jeff Merkley (D-OR) on Monday admitted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi\u2019s (D-CA) husband\u2019s stock trading activity sways her legislative judgment.<\/p>\n<p>While American workers are not privy to much of the information that high-ranking members of Congress possess, Pelosi believes lawmakers and their spouses should be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/16\/were-free-market-nancy-pelosi-rejects-ban-lawmakers-spouses-trading-individual-stocks\/\">permitted<\/a> to continue&nbsp;trading stocks with a small degree of transparency.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cSpeaker Pelosi is an amazing leader, but on this issue I disagree with her completely,\u201d&nbsp;Merkley&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenJeffMerkley\/status\/1479626168890449921?s=20\">said<\/a>.&nbsp;\u201cWhen members hold individual stocks it can\u2019t help but influence their thinking on policies and tax laws that affect their value.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11277762\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Sen-Jeff-Merkley-D-OR-Capitol-May19-Getty.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11277762\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Sen-Jeff-Merkley-D-OR-Capitol-May19-Getty.jpg\" alt=\"WASHINGTON, DC - MAY 16: Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) (Tasos Katopodis\/Getty Images for MoveOn.org)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">Merkley\u2019s comments came after&nbsp;<\/span>Pelosi in December defended lawmakers and their spouses\u2019 ability to stock trade due to erroneous \u201cfree-market\u201d principles.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re a free-market economy,\u201d Pelosi&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/16\/were-free-market-nancy-pelosi-rejects-ban-lawmakers-spouses-trading-individual-stocks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\"><u>defended<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;the position. \u201cThey [lawmakers] should be able to participate in that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pelosi, who is married to&nbsp;profuse trader Paul, is one of the most wealthy members of Congress, largely because of her husband\u2019s stock trading activity and real estate holdings.
