Jim Jordan (R-OH) formally replied on Sunday to the January 6 select committee\u2019s request to meet with him as part of its investigation, denouncing the request as \u201coutside the bounds of any legitimate inquiry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jordan gave his reply in a letter obtained by Breitbart News and addressed to committee chair Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) after weeks of reviewing the committee\u2019s request, which was made December 22.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis request is far outside the bounds of any legitimate inquiry, violates core Constitutional principles, and would serve to further erode legislative norms,\u201d Jordan wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Read a copy of the letter below:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The January 6 committee, created by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), has targeted former President Donald Trump and his allies as it <a href=\"https:\/\/january6th.house.gov\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">investigates<\/a> the \u201cfacts, circumstances, and causes\u201d of the riot that occurred January 6 at the U.S. Capitol, and the committee members have been vocal in their belief that Trump and those in his orbit are to blame for provoking the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The committee has gone so far as to issue dozens of subpoenas to allies of Trump, but it has not subpoenaed members of Congress. The closest it has come to such a move is to send official letters to both Jordan and Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA), the chair of the House Freedom Caucus, to request meetings with the pair.<\/p>\n<p>In its letter to Jordan, the committee <a href=\"https:\/\/january6th.house.gov\/sites\/democrats.january6th.house.gov\/files\/2021-12-22.BGT%20Letter%20to%20Jordan.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">requested<\/a>&nbsp;the Ohio Republican\u2019s \u201cvoluntary cooperation\u201d with the investigation, stating it knew of \u201cat least one and possibly multiple communications\u201d Jordan had with Trump on the day of the riot.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan has consistently maintained he has \u201cnothing to hide\u201d regarding January 6, and his response to the committee also says as much.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no relevant information that would assist the Select Committee in advancing any legitimate legislative purpose,\u201d Jordan wrote.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI cannot speak to Speaker Pelosi\u2019s failure to ensure the appropriate security posture at the Capitol complex in advance of well-publicized protests on January 6, 2021,\u201d he added, zoning in on a point he and his Republican colleagues have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/04\/cover-up-house-republicans-demand-nancy-pelosi-answer-for-failures-to-secure-capitol-on-january-6\/\">making<\/a> that they believe Pelosi shares blame for the riot, considering elements of Capitol security ultimately fall under her purview.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/07\/21\/jim-jordan-pelosi-admitted-january-6-committee-a-partisan-political-charade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">condemned<\/a> the committee overall as a \u201cpartisan political charade\u201d after Pelosi denied both Jordan and Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) a seat on the committee, a move that prompted House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to withdraw his participation in it. The originally proposed 13-member committee is now nine members, seven Democrats and two fervent Never Trump Republicans.<\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u201cDemocrats <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">violated<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the most <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">fundamental<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and longstanding<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">safeguard<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">for<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">fairness<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in&nbsp;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">House proceedings<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">standing up <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the Select Committee,\u201d Jordan wrote of her rejections of him and Banks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u201c<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Speaker Pelosi <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">also<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">fail<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ed<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to consult with Leader <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">McCarthy <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">about<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the appointment&nbsp;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of Republican Members<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in direct<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">violation of the requirement in<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the resolution establishing the&nbsp;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Select Committee<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">that she do so, he continued. \u201c<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">As a result, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">without any Republican Members selected by&nbsp;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the Republican Leader, the Select Committee has<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">no effective measure of balance <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">or<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">objectivity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Thompson, who wrote the committee\u2019s meeting request to Jordan, had proposed the meeting happen January 3 or 4 or the week of January 10, but Thompson did not specify a hard deadline for Jordan to respond, and in Jordan\u2019s reply letter, the congressman did not explicitly provide an answer to the meeting request.<\/p>\n<p>Perry, for his part, outright <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepScottPerry\/status\/1473323473737027588?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rejected<\/a> the committee\u2019s request on December 21, immediately after the committee contacted him.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/meet-the-press\/news\/meet-press-january-2-2022-n1286830\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">indicated<\/a> a week ago during an appearance on NBC\u2019s <em>Meet the Press<\/em> that he is exploring whether he can legally subpoena sitting members of Congress. \u201cI think there are some questions of whether we have the authority to do it,\u201d Thompson said. \u201cWe\u2019re looking at it.
