I never expected to see a sea lion on the freeway.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The CHP arrived at the scene and began to block traffic.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span> \u201cThey stopped it several times but there was times when the traffic was coming and the sea lion was moving quickly, trying to go to one side of the freeway or the other,\u201d Leslie Fernandez, a motorist who encountered the animal, <a href=\"https:\/\/fox5sandiego.com\/news\/local-news\/sea-lion-rescued-from-san-diego-highway\/\">told<\/a> Fox 5.<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>SeaWorld San Diego sent a rescue team to the area, which arrived around 10:15 a.m. and captured the sea lion three miles from San Diego Bay, according to the <em>Union-Tribune<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fb-post\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CHPSanDiego\/posts\/1001351977085679\" data-width=\"640\">\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/graph.facebook.com\/223196451567906\/posts\/1001351977085679\/\" class=\"fb-xfbml-parse-ignore\">\n<p>It\u2019s not everyday you see a sea lion on the freeway. This morning at approximately 9:40 a.m., we received call of a sea\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Posted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/223196451567906\">CHP \u2013 San Diego<\/a> on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/graph.facebook.com\/223196451567906\/posts\/1001351977085679\/\">Friday, January 7, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p><span> \u201cWe got in our truck immediately and rushed down to ensure that the sea lion, obviously, wasn\u2019t hit by a car,\u201d said SeaWorld rescue team supervisor Jeni Smith, per the outlet. \u201cBeing on the freeway is very, very unsafe for a sea lion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>She added she had a hunch it was a sea lion they had rescued from unusual places in the past.<\/p>\n<p><span> \u201cIt does fit the description of an animal we have gotten reports about that \u2014 he\u2019s been in some precarious areas, but they\u2019ve all been next to the water,\u201d said Smith.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Later in the day, SeaWorld confirmed the sea lion\u2019s identity.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span> \u201cIn the beginning of November, this sea lion was rescued from Harbor Island Drive near the airport,\u201d Spahr told the Union-Tribune via email. \u201cAfter about a week of care, the animal was deemed ready and was returned.
