Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/GettyImages-530484679-e1641663509482-640x335-1.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">British Members of Parliament (MPs) are due a \u00a32,000 pay rise on the same day they may be hiking taxes for working Britons.<\/p>\n<p>British MPs are set to be given an additional \u00a32,000 ($2,717.94) by the British taxpayer on top of their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parliament.uk\/about\/mps-and-lords\/members\/pay-mps\/\">current<\/a> \u00a381,932 ($11,1343.13) salary from the 1st of April 2022.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Working Britons, however, be left without on April Fool\u2019s Day, with higher gas bills, higher council tax, and a National Insurance increase looking likely for 1.2 million Brits earning over&nbsp;\u00a350,070, who will be driven into the&nbsp;40 per cent higher rate tax band under Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak\u2019s latest plans,&nbsp;<em>The Telegraph<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/politics\/2022\/01\/06\/one-million-pulled-higher-rate-tax\/\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If the tax-free personal allowance of&nbsp;\u00a312,570 does not rise in line with forecast inflation, an additional 1.5 million workers on low incomes will find themselves pushed into the 20 per cent basic tax rate as well, so both the working and middle class will be hammered.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the&nbsp;Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) which regulates MPs\u2019 wages does appear to be planning to increase their salaries in line with public sector wage increases \u2014 although new rules implemented during the coronavirus pandemic do allow IPSA to freeze or decrease pay rises.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>It has released a statement saying that \u201cA decision on MPs\u2019 pay for 2022-23 will be taken early in 2022\u201d and adding that it \u201cwill take into account ONS [Office for National Statistics] data as well as other relevant information\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>IPSA boss&nbsp;John O\u2019Connell suggested that \u201cPoliticians\u2019 pay should be linked to the country\u2019s economic performance \u2014 to show we\u2019re all in it together\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">UK Facing Massive Tax Hikes Following COVID Spending Spree, Warns Think Tank, As Unemployment Rises <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mVzCnM3Zlf\">https:\/\/t.co\/mVzCnM3Zlf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1316015840781721608?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 13, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Households will be hit by an increase of as much as 56 per cent in their energy bills, with calculations from Investec, the investment bank, suggesting a typical Briton\u2019s energy bill will go up from \u00a31,277 to almost \u00a32,000 a year,&nbsp;<em>The Telegraph<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/politics\/2022\/01\/06\/one-million-pulled-higher-rate-tax\/\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside this energy bill rise, an increase in national insurance of 1.25 percentage points will come in in the same month, costing the average worker an additional \u00a3255 a year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The new taxes currently planned by the government may hit Prime Minister Boris Johnson\u2019s Conservatives\u2019 new voters \u2014 formerly Labour-supporting \u2018Red Wall\u2019 voters \u2014 the hardest.&nbsp;The Conservative Party\u2019s once 80-seat parliamentary majority won in the 2019 general election was in large part delivered by former Red Wall voters&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2019\/12\/13\/collapse-red-wall-labour-voters-backed-conservatives\/\">choosing to vote<\/a>&nbsp;Conservative, some for the first time ever.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018Red Wall\u2019 refers to industrial areas of Britain that were once home to coal mines, steel plants, and manufacturing, largely in the North of England. The latest poll <a href=\"https:\/\/redfieldandwiltonstrategies.com\/latest-gb-voting-intention-3-january-2022\/\">conducted<\/a> by Redfield and Wilton on the 3rd of January 2022 shows the Conservative Party at 35 per cent and the Labour Party three points ahead at 38 percent.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Despite British voters having to tighten their belts this year, multiple MPs have been embroiled in expenses scandals throughout the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>28-year-old Labour MP Zarah Sultana, for example,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/politics\/2021\/05\/22\/labour-mp-spent-700-taxpayers-money-influencers-toolkit\/\">billed<\/a> the taxpayer over \u00a3700 for an \u201cinfluencer kit\u201d in 2021, which included an \u2018influencer\u2019 ring light and Canon camera. The far-left Labour MP is known for her controversial far-left political opinions, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/zarahsultana\/status\/1478785938394341389?s=20\">support<\/a> for statue-topplers, which she airs openly on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Labour MP and former shadow government minister&nbsp;Jess Phillips, meanwhile,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/vote-watch.com\/2020\/11\/18\/jess-phillips-claimed-61k-expenses-in-one-year-even-claiming-back-refugee-charity-event-ticket\/\">spent<\/a> \u00a361,000 of taxpayer\u2019s money in expenses from 2019-2020, which included claiming back a \u00a328 ticket for her attendance at the National Refugee Women\u2019s Conference.<\/p>\n<p>Conservative MPs were also caught fleecing the taxpayer \u2014 collectively claiming almost <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2021\/apr\/11\/tory-mps-claim-almost-3m-in-housing-rent-on-expenses\">\u00a33 million<\/a> in rent expenses between April and November 2o20 despite 42 of them owning homes they rent out to others for at least \u00a310,000 a year in income.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">60 Per Cent of Britons Reject Higher Taxes to Fulfil BoJo\u2019s Green Agenda<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1mQmismRhP\">https:\/\/t.co\/1mQmismRhP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1478712892794957826?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 5, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Speaking to Breitbart News,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/B_HQ\">Ben Harris-Quinney<\/a>, chairman of the Bow Group conservative think tank, criticised the government\u2019s tax hikes, saying that \u201cthe cost of living crisis is one that has largely been inflicted on us by politicians, especially when it comes to energy bills\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Harris-Quinney laid the blame for the tax rises on the Conservative\u2019s new green strategy, saying: \u201cMPs are obsessed with a net-zero strategy that will be the most expensive policy in history, and they haven\u2019t properly consulted the public on. It will decimate the economy, and force millions into economic hardship, whilst MPs have allowances and pay rises isolating them from the effects\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Bow Group chairman also condemned any rise in MPs\u2019 salaries, saying any rise should be linked to \u201cperformance\u201d not \u201cpublic sector pay inflation\u201d.
