Bush, 49; Bill Clinton, 54; and George H.W. Bush, 46.<\/p>\n<p>Politico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/newsletters\/playbook\/2022\/01\/09\/does-trump-need-twitter-495651\">summarized<\/a> the AP\u2019s report by writing, \u201cHIDIN\u2019 BIDEN \u2014 If you feel like you haven\u2019t seen many sit-down interviews with Biden in his first year as president, it\u2019s probably because you haven\u2019t.<em>\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The report added:<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-55 Component-p-0-2-46\"><em>Former President Donald Trump, who regularly pilloried the media, did 92 interviews in his first year in office, more than two dozen of those with friendly interlocutors at Fox News. But Trump also held lengthy sessions with ABC News, The Associated Press, the New York Times, Reuters and other outlets whose coverage he impugned throughout his presidency.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-55 Component-p-0-2-46\"><em>Biden\u2019s 22 media interviews have included one-on-one sessions with journalists at three of the major television networks, three CNN town halls, an appearance on MSNBC, a trio of regional television interviews via Zoom, as well as conversations with late night host Jimmy Fallon and ESPN\u2019S Sage Steele. He\u2019s given just three print interviews.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Steven Portnoy, president of the White House Correspondents\u2019 Association and a reporter for CBS New Radio, slammed Biden for avoiding answering the media\u2019s questions, calling his actions \u201cinsufficient.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFleeting exchanges are insufficient to building the historical record of the president\u2019s views on a broad array of public concerns. We have had scant opportunities in this first year to learn the president\u2019s views on a broad range of public concerns,\u201d Portnoy said. \u201cThe more formal the exchange with the press, the more the public is apt to learn about what\u2019s on the man\u2019s mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Portnoy pressed Biden back in November, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/reporter-pleads-biden-white-house-questions\">asking<\/a> him at the end of a speech, \u201cWhen will you answer our questions, sir?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was confronted last month by a reporter over Biden\u2019s lack of media interviews, specifically in local markets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would very much like that to happen,\u201d Psaki claimed. \u201cWe are always competing with time on the schedule. I\u2019m going to be honest, his schedule has been quite packed. But he would like to do it. We would like to get it on the schedule.
