A woman \u201cwas also inside of the home at the time of the slide and was able to escape on her own.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Firefighters quickly developed a plan to simultaneously rescue the man and control the fire.<\/p>\n<p><span>The Fire Department stated:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span>Firefighters utilized hydraulic struts to shore the structure to stabilize it enough for entry and bring the trapped person to safety. He was pinned underneath debris in the daylight basement and transported to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition, along with the woman who self-extricated.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Seattle also responded to the scene to evacuate a nearby home and block traffic from entering the slide zone.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Perkins Ln slide: a lot of teamwork is happening here to get tools in and out of the hard to access area in the slide zone behind the house. Upon arrival crews also had to simultaneously work to extinguish a fire while a resident was trapped inside. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HplQjecmRA\">pic.twitter.com\/HplQjecmRA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Seattle Fire Dept. (@SeattleFire) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SeattleFire\/status\/1479581054985912320?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 7, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Firefighters laid hose lines to the back of the home and were able to control the blaze within 25 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>First responders searched for two missing dogs. \u201cUnfortunately one was found deceased and the other was not located,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe steep slope area behind the house had slid, likely as a result of high levels of precipitation which resulted in the top floor of the structure partially collapsing on top of the daylight basement,\u201d the SFD stated.<\/p>\n<p>A structural inspector from the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI) was sent to the scene to check on other structures in the slide area.<\/p>\n<p>The home was red-tagged, meaning \u201cno one can enter due to structural instability,\u201d the SFD stated.<\/p>\n<p>Bryan Stevens, director of media relations for SDCI, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/seattle-news\/seattle-fire-department-responding-to-magnolia-home-that-appears-to-be-sliding-off-foundation\/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=owned_echobox_tw_m&amp;utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1641596943-1\">told<\/a> the <em>Seattle Times<\/em> a home south of the one that moved had no structural damage. He recommended the residents reach out to a private&nbsp;geotechnical engineer and keep an eye on the hill.<\/p>\n<p>The fire department reminds citizens who live near hills or slopes to periodically check for signs of soil movement, including cracks in the soil and leaning trees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Seattle firefighter saved a man trapped in the basement on Friday after his\u00a0house slid off its foundation during a landslide.
