Saitama health officials classified four such injuries as \u201csevere,\u201d including that of a \u201c72-year-old woman who fell from her bicycle and broke her leg.\u201d An 84-year-old Saitama man similarly <a href=\"https:\/\/english.kyodonews.net\/news\/2022\/01\/22387408fd53-breaking-news-heavy-snow-warning-issued-in-central-tokyo-for-1st-time-in-4-yrs.html\">broke<\/a> his leg \u201cafter falling when he was riding a bicycle\u201d on January 7.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the slip-and-fall incidents, Tokyo police recorded \u201c77 traffic accidents resulting in injuries\u201d that occurred \u201cdue to the snow\u201d as of the morning of January 7.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Four residents of Saitama\u2019s Kasukabe city suffered \u201cminor injuries\u201d in a traffic accident involving five trucks sometime between January 6 and January 8, local police told Kyodo News on Saturday. Kasukabe police officers said they suspected \u201cicy road\u201d conditions caused the accident.<\/p>\n<p>A 3.7-mile-long stretch of Tokyo\u2019s Metropolitan Expressway <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HQ4Dng0DzsE\">iced over<\/a> on the night of January 6&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.asahi.com\/ajw\/articles\/14517196\">stranding<\/a> several motorists on the road overnight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the portion of the inner track of the circular route of the Metropolitan Expressway that extends almost 6 kilometers [3.7 miles] from Kohoku Junction in Adachi Ward to Itabashi Junction in Itabashi Ward, drivers were forced to stay in their cars overnight for more than 10 hours,\u201d the <em>Asahi Shimbun<\/em> reported on January 7.<\/p>\n<p>Metropolitan Expressway staff provided the stranded drivers with \u201cfood, water and disposable toilets\u201d during their overnight ordeal, the Japanese newspaper<i>&nbsp;<\/i>revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Central Tokyo recorded 3.9 inches of snow accumulation on the evening of January 6.
