Kareem Daniel, chairman of distribution for Disney, cited the pandemic and the slower recovery for family films at the box office.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cGiven the delayed box office recovery, particularly for family films, flexibility remains at the core of our distribution decisions,\u201d said Daniel in a statement.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CYcSxCmgJsU\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The last two Pixar releases, \u201cSoul\u201d and \u201cLuca,\u201d also went straight to streaming during the pandemic. Before that, \u201cOnward\u201d launched in theaters in early March 2020, just as the pandemic forced theaters closed. It soon after began streaming to Disney+.<\/p>\n<p>Disney describes \u201cTurning Red\u201d as the story of \u201ca confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between staying her mother\u2019s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence.\u201d Directed by Domee Shi (who made the Pixar short \u201cBao\u201d), it\u2019s the first Pixar film helmed solely by a woman.
