Check Your Fact searched press releases from the <a href=\"https:\/\/search.justice.gov\/search?affiliate=justice&amp;sort_by=&amp;query=Dick+Cheney\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department of Justice<\/a>, as well as the websites of reputable news outlets like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/search?query=Dick+Cheney+arrest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Times<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/dick-cheney\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Associated Press<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/search?query=Dick%20Cheney%20arrested&amp;btn-search=&amp;facets=%7B%22time%22%3A%22all%22%2C%22sort%22%3A%22relevancy%22%2C%22section%22%3A%5B%5D%2C%22author%22%3A%5B%5D%7D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Washington Post<\/a>, but found no mention of Cheney\u2019s alleged Christmas Eve arrest. He was spotted on Jan. 6, less than two weeks after his purported detainment, visiting the Capitol where he joined with members of Congress in condemning last year\u2019s attack on the building, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/january-6-cheney\/2022\/01\/06\/72665baa-6f1e-11ec-974b-d1c6de8b26b0_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Washington Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The rumor of Cheney\u2019s arrest appears to stem from a <a href=\"https:\/\/realrawnews.com\/2021\/12\/dick-cheney-arrested\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dec. 28 article<\/a> published on Real Raw News, a website that states on its \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/realrawnews.com\/about-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">About Us<\/a>\u201d page that it contains \u201chumor, parody, and satire.\u201d The article claims Cheney was arrested on Christmas Eve by U.S. Special Forces and <a href=\"https:\/\/realrawnews.com\/2021\/12\/dick-cheney-arrested\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">refers<\/a> to him as \u201cthe 9\/11 mastermind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/11\/17\/fact-check-military-not-arrest-george-w-bush\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Check Your Fact<\/a> previously debunked a similar rumor that alleged former President George W. Bush was arrested by the military.
