One Law student the other a protester. Can someone explain why ICE is not picking them up?<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jamal Simmons (@JamalSimmons) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JamalSimmons\/status\/9274170902847488?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 29, 2010<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Simmons apologized shortly after the decade-old tweet was shared via Twitter. Simmons said in his January 7 statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>As a pundit for much of my career, I have tweeted a lot and spoken out on public issues. Sometimes I have been sarcastic, unclear, or just plainly missed the mark. I sincerely apologize for offending those who care as much as I do about making America the best, multi-ethnic, diverse democracy it can be. I know the role I am taking on is to represent the Biden-Harris administration, and I will do so with humility, sincerity and respect.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Simmons\u2019s instant apology spotlights the current eagerness of many Democrats \u2014 including Harris \u2014 to elevate the interests of foreign migrants above their own base of working-class Americans, including African-Americans and American Latinos.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">1\/n White liberal support for increasing immigration levels is up to ~62.5% in the latest ANES 2020 (up from ~36% in 2016). <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/tu0ZVq2axJ\">pic.twitter.com\/tu0ZVq2axJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Zach Goldberg (@ZachG932) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ZachG932\/status\/1376631945745068039?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 29, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ReichlinMelnick\/status\/1479487860722044928?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A tweet<\/a> from Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, a pro-migration advocate at the American Immigration Council who posted Simmons\u2019s tweet, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>His positions a decade ago were fairly typical of a lot of Democrats; harsh border controls and employer sanctions but a desire to pass some kind of immigration reform. That is still the mainstream position for many.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Demcorats\u2019 strategic choice to favor migrants over ordinary Americans helps Harris\u2019s allies in the investment and business sector, and it pleases the mostly-white progressive base. But it damages mainstream Democratic priorities and polls.<\/p>\n<p>For example, a polling report by the Democracy Corps polling firms suggests that Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/democracycorps.com\/uncategorized\/key-actions-to-raise-support-with-all-working-class-voters-and-raise-democratic-margins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drop any mention of migration<\/a>&nbsp;and instead promise to transfer wealth from investors to ordinary voters.<\/p>\n<p>Simmons has pushed a similar race-and-economics pitch in a December 8 article at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/forbestheculture\/2021\/12\/08\/african-american-struggles-show-in-presidential-approval-ratings\/?sh=38bb68d67f22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Forbes.com<\/a>:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<p>As the co-pandemics of racial injustice and COVID-19 lay at the feet of Black America, the Democratic party has frequently wavered between fighting for racial equity and pushing forward on an economy-only message. Simmons, a longtime Democratic strategist and former 2008 Obama\/Biden campaign advisor, said it\u2019s an unnecessary separation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no reason for Democrats to put economic and social policy in different buckets. Building an America strong enough for all of us to benefit and not face discrimination means passing good economic policies, protecting voting rights and ensuring public safety by helping good police and stopping bad police,\u201d said Simmons, a frequent television commentator.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMeanwhile Trump Republicans hide in the corner afraid to fix anything their extremist base might disagree with,\u201d Simmons added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The damage is recognized by President Joe Biden\u2019s top aides, who have been pushing radical, pro-migration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/immigration\/2022\/01\/07\/radical-pro-migration-advocate-esther-olavarria-exits-white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">policy staffers out<\/a> of the White House.<\/p>\n<p>Some Democrats are standing up for Simmons:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I am from a legal immigrant family. But the&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/duckduckgo.com\/?q=site%3Abreitbart.com+neil+munro+lankford+Immigration&amp;atb=v302-1__&amp;ia=web\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">bipartisan<\/a>&nbsp;federal government has exploited that openness since 1990 to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tag\/extraction-migration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">extract tens of millions of migrants<\/a>&nbsp;from poor countries&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/20\/census-biden-drives-up-foreign-born-population-across-swing-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to boost U.S. businesses<\/a>&nbsp;as workers, consumers, and renters.<\/p>\n<p>That&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/immigration\/2021\/12\/20\/washington-post-low-wage-employers-struggle-after-cheap-labor-bubble\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">economic strategy<\/a>&nbsp;is harmful to ordinary Americans: It cuts their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/immigration\/2021\/03\/12\/bloomberg-opts-h1bs-take-two-three-new-tech-jobs-each-year\/\" strategy also curbs Americans\u2019&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2020\/07\/11\/president-trump-wins-big-on-secret-meatpacking-robots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">productivity<\/a>, shrinks their political&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.breitbart.com+%22john+binder%22+%22demographic+change%22&amp;rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS946US946&amp;oq=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.breitbart.com+%22john+binder%22+%22demographic+change%22&amp;aqs=chrome..69i57j69i58.10228j0j4&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">clout<\/a>, widens&nbsp;regional wealth&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/08\/13\/zuckerbergs-data-says-amnesty-gives-economic-windfall-coastal-democratic-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gaps<\/a>,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noopener\">broad<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2020\/05\/28\/business-poll-backfires-shows-public-wants-less-migration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opposition<\/a>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/11\/16\/exit-polls-3-in-4-voters-want-less-immigration-during-and-after-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">labor migration<\/a>&nbsp;and the inflow of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2020\/08\/06\/ipsos-poll-public-opposes-migrant-workers-by-21\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">temporary<\/a>&nbsp;contract workers&nbsp;into jobs sought by young U.S. graduates.<\/p>\n<p>This&nbsp;<a
