Our goal is to ensure we are providing consumers with the most valuable, fair and accurate neighborhood data so they can make informed decisions about where they want to rent or purchase their next home,\u201d the Realtor.com CEO added.<\/p>\n<p>The company does not have anything further to share at this point beyond the initial blog post announcing the crime map would be removed, Stephanie Singer, Realtor.com\u2019s senior director of corporate communications, told The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>Redfin said the company recently decided not to add crime data to its real estate buying website because doing so could reinforce racial bias.<\/p>\n<p>Christian Taubman, Redfin\u2019s chief growth officer, wrote in a December 13 blog <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redfin.com\/news\/neighborhood-crime-data-doesnt-belong-on-real-estate-sites\/\">post<\/a> that Redfin is aware people want to know \u201cwhether they\u2019ll feel safe in a given home or neighborhood,\u201d but \u201cthe data available don\u2019t allow us to speak accurately to that question, and given the long history of redlining and racist housing covenants in the United States there\u2019s too great a risk of this inaccuracy reinforcing racial bias.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that Redfin\u2013and all real estate sites\u2013should not show neighborhood crime data,\u201d Taubman wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Taubman said Redfin considered using data from both the FBI\u2019s Uniform Crime Report and the National Crime Victimization Survey from the Bureau of Justice Statistics, but both of those data sources had issues, such as missing, unreported crimes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the 2019 survey, people reporting crimes were more likely to describe their offender as young, male, and Black than would be expected given the representation of those groups in the population,\u201d Taubman explained.<\/p>\n<p>Redfin will continue to add more data to its site, but \u201cin this case we\u2019re confident that the crime data that are available today ought not to be on Redfin or any other real estate site,\u201d Taubman wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Both Realtor.com and Redfin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/381468\/most-popular-real-estate-websites-by-monthly-visits-usa\/\">rank<\/a> in the five most trafficked real estate websites in the U.S. as of October.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
