One video shared on Facebook claims to show a large fireworks show that occurred in Japan in celebration of the new year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJapan New Years FireWorks are so [fire emoji],\u201d reads text included in the video.&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/03\/22\/fact-check-japanese-movie-akira-predict-coronavirus-outbreak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did The Japanese Movie \u2018Akira\u2019 Predict The Coronavirus Outbreak?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The video, however, does not show a real fireworks display that occurred in Japan. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found the same video was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3mfm_phG1os&amp;feature=emb_title\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shared on Youtube<\/a> in November 2014, with the title, \u201cFWsim Mount Fuji Synchronized Fireworks Show.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fwsim.com\/about.html\">FWsim<\/a> is a simulation software that allows users to create realistic-looking, computer-generated videos of fireworks. Its website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fwsim.com\/shows.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">features<\/a> several fireworks simulation videos set in a variety of locations around the world.<\/p>\n<p>New Year\u2019s Eve in Japan is \u201ctypically spent at home with family\u201d and \u201ccountdown events are not all that common,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/tokyocheapo.com\/entertainment\/event-posts\/japanese-new-year-tokyo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tokyo Cheapo<\/a>. An annual New Year\u2019s Eve countdown at Tokyo\u2019s Shibuya crossing was canceled this year due to concerns about COVID-19, Sky News <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/new-years-eve-around-the-world-how-countries-are-celebrating-with-widespread-covid-restrictions-12506928\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>. Many people this year visited temples and shrines on New Year\u2019s Eve, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/japantoday.com\/category\/world\/new-year%27s-eve-muted-by-omicron-many-hoping-for-better-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Japan Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Check Your Fact previously <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/08\/20\/fact-check-fireworks-display-tokyo-olympics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">debunked<\/a> a video in 2020 claiming to show fireworks during the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
