Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/NB-1200x800-1.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Democrats in Nevada are reportedly planning to introduce legislation in an effort to attract technology companies to the state that would effectively allow them to form their own separate governments at the local-level.<\/p>\n<p>Democrat Governor Steve Sisolak announced the plan last week and said that the goal was to form \u201cInnovation Zones\u201d in an effort to boost the state\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to a draft of the proposed legislation, obtained by the Review-Journal but not yet introduced in the Legislature, Innovation Zones would allow tech companies like Blockchains, LLC to effectively form separate local governments in Nevada, governments that would carry the same authority as a county, including the ability to impose taxes, form school districts and justice courts and provide government services, to name a few duties,\u201d The Las Vegas Review Journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/news\/politics-and-government\/2021-legislature\/bill-would-allow-tech-companies-to-create-local-governments-2272887\/\">reported<\/a>. \u201cSisolak pitched the concept in his State of the State address as his plan to bring in new companies that are at the forefront of \u2018groundbreaking technologies,\u2019 all without the use of tax abatements or other publicly funded incentive packages that had previously helped Nevada bring companies like Tesla to the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sisolak specifically mentioned Blockchains, LLC during his speech and said that they had committed to developing a so-called \u201csmart city\u201d near Reno that would attempt to run solely on blockchain technology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Governor\u2019s Office of Economic Development would oversee applications for the zones, which would be limited to companies working in specific business areas including blockchain, autonomous technology, the Internet of Things, robotics, artificial intelligence, wireless, biometrics and renewable resource technology,\u201d the Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/legislature-legislation-local-governments-nevada-economy-2fa79128a7bf41073c1e9102e8a0e5f0\">reported<\/a>. \u201cZone requirements would include applicants owning at least 78 square miles (202 square kilometers) of undeveloped, uninhabited land within a single county but separate from any city, town or tax increment area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Companies would also need to have at least a quarter of a billion of dollars and would need to have plans to invest at least a full billion in their zones over a 10-year period.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the governor\u2019s office said that he \u201clooks forward to rolling out more information on Innovation Zones and other items from his State of the State speech in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Governor\u2019s Office has not submitted a bill draft request related to this initiative so we will not be commenting on any language at this time,\u201d the statement concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Nevada\u2019s economy has been hit hard due to the coronavirus pandemic because it \u201crelies heavily on tax revenue from tourism and hospitality to underwrite spending, including on health care and education,\u201d the AP <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/personal-taxes-coronavirus-pandemic-las-vegas-nevada-economy-276a0532a7c99c8d66d7b5ff75949c0b\">reported<\/a> in December. \u201cSales tax accounts for almost one-third of general fund revenue and the state also relies heavily on live entertainment and gaming taxes from tourists who frequent concerts and casinos on the Las Vegas Strip.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tourism numbers in the state are currently the lowest in nearly 30 years due to restrictions that were put in place to slow down the spread of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>News that Nevada is trying to attract tech companies comes after some tech companies have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/business\/business-news\/tech-flight-why-silicon-valley-heading-miami-austin-texas-n1255330\">fled<\/a> Silicon Valley in California for more business friendly environments in Texas and Florida.<\/p>\n<p><em><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
