The attorneys had asked for an average of $3.4 million for each illegal alien family.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/ratt8\">interviews<\/a> with the <em>Washington Post<\/em>, former Obama official Julian Castro called Biden\u2019s dropping the $450,000 payouts for border crossers \u201cjust deeply disappointing\u201d and said that \u201cit seems as though the administration is operating out of fear of the politics of this instead of operating based on the values that we share as Democrats.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Biden\u2019s] instinct is a very defensive one,\u201d Castro said. \u201cIt tends toward an enforcement-based approach and an approach that sees immigration as a third rail of politics. Generally, the administration is scared of that issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>ACLU attorney Lee Gelernt said \u201cthe government broke\u201d off negotiations between the Biden administration and the border crossers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was no offer on the table,\u201d Gelernt said. \u201cWe would be happy to continue talking with the government, but not if it\u2019s just going to be dragging us along for months again and wasting time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, attorneys with the left-wing Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights <a href=\"https:\/\/lccrsf.org\/pressroom_posts\/biden-administration-makes-cruel-decision-to-fight-california-families-separated-at-the-border-in-court\/\">went after<\/a> Biden for not following through on the $450,000 payouts to border crossers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cActions speak louder than words, and by sending its lawyers to try to throw separated families out of court, the Biden Administration is effectively defending Trump\u2019s cruel and unlawful family separation policy,\u201d an attorney said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>As Breitbart News&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/23\/joe-bidens-plan-for-450k-payouts-to-border-crossers-stalls-amidst-backlash\/\">recently reported<\/a>, the talks had stalled as a result of massive public outcry with polls showing overwhelming opposition to the payouts.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>About&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/21\/poll-over-6-in-10-americans-oppose-bidens-450k-for-border-crossers\/\">63 percent<\/a>&nbsp;of Americans told CBS News\/YouGov pollsters that they are opposed to the payouts, including 64 percent of swing voters, and even 4-in-10 voters who supported Biden against Trump in the 2020 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>Polls from Rasmussen Reports and the&nbsp;National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) showed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/07\/poll-majority-oppose-bidens-450k-payouts-border-crossers\/\">similar results<\/a>&nbsp;where a majority of Americans, including likely&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/08\/poll-2-in-3-swing-voters-oppose-bidens-450k-payouts-to-border-crossers\/\">swing voters<\/a>, oppose the payouts.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Angel Families \u2014 those who have lost loved ones from illegal immigration \u2014&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/05\/angel-families-biden-plan-450k-illegal-aliens-0-american-victims\/\">slammed<\/a>&nbsp;the payouts as \u201ca plan to create millionaires out of over 5,000 illegal alien families\u201d in statements to Breitbart News.<\/p>\n<p>The cost of the payouts to border crossers would have been upwards of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/01\/analysis-biden-proposal-could-turn-illegal-alien-families-into-millionaires\/\">$1 billion<\/a> and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/10\/29\/bidens-450k-reparations-for-border-crossers-exceeds-payments-to-9-11-victims-american-military-families\/\">more than<\/a>&nbsp;was given to the American victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks or the Boston Marathon bombing victims.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>John Binder is a reporter for Breitbart News.
