It was established to protect people from unethical medical experimentation. Recently, social media users have been sharing an image of what they claim to be Article 6, Section 3 of the code, a segment that appears to classify mask mandates as a \u201cwar crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeaders should be aware that mandating masks on the citizens of a nation and preventing their access to food, healthcare, transport, or education if they don\u2019t comply is a war crime,\u201d reads a portion of the image. \u201cMasks or any other medical intervention must remain voluntary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This text, however, is nowhere to be found in the Nuremberg Code, which is available on reputable websites such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ushmm.org\/information\/exhibitions\/online-exhibitions\/special-focus\/doctors-trial\/nuremberg-code\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">USHMM<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/research.unc.edu\/human-research-ethics\/resources\/ccm3_019064\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of North Carolina\u2019s research page<\/a>. Check Your Fact reviewed the entirety of the code and found no mention of masks or anything about \u201cpreventing\u201d access to \u201cfood, healthcare, transport, or education.\u201d The term \u201cwar crime\u201d also does not appear in the code.<\/p>\n<p>The text of the code, which centers around the conduct of medical experiments, does mention that \u201cvoluntary consent of the human subject is absolutely essential\u201d when it comes to medical experiments.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/law.stanford.edu\/directory\/david-m-studdert\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Studdert<\/a>, a professor of medicine and law at the University of Stanford, told Check Your Fact in an email that the Facebook image\u2019s claim was false. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/12\/10\/fact-check-european-union-ursula-von-der-leyen-throwing-out-nuremberg-code\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did Ursula von Der Leyen Call For \u2018Throwing Out\u2019 The Nuremberg Code?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat has come to be called the \u2018Nuremberg Code\u2019 consists of 10 principles for medical research involving human participants that were set forth in a decision of the Nuremberg Military Tribunal,\u201d said Studdert. \u201cMasks are not mentioned \u2013 nor, for that matter, is anything related to public health measures.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An image\u00a0shared on Facebook claims mask mandates are considered a \u201cwar crime\u201d under the Nuremberg Code.Verdict: FalseThere is no mention of mask mandates in the Nuremberg Code.
