Greg Abbott and GOP South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster, saying they \u201cpiled onto the outrage last month\u201d by asking for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/nbc-out\/out-politics-and-policy\/south-carolina-governor-calls-lgbtq-book-banned-schools-rcna5409\">investigations<\/a>&nbsp;as to how &nbsp;\u201cobscene\u201d and \u201cpornographic\u201d books were in schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very hard to hear people say \u2018This book is not appropriate to young people\u2019 when it\u2019s like, I was a young person for whom this book would have been not only appropriate, but so, so necessary\u2026.There are a lot of people who are questioning their gender, questioning their sexuality and having a real hard time finding honest accounts of somebody else on the same journey. There are people for whom this is vital and for whom this could maybe even be lifesaving,\u201d Kobabe told NBC News.<\/p>\n<p>Kobabe added, \u201cI\u2019ve been receiving almost weekly, and sometimes more than weekly, emails from readers thanking me for writing it, telling me how much it meant to them, saying it helped them understand themselves or that they gave it to a parent or a child or a friend or a partner, and that it helped their loved one understand them more, and that it opened up conversations they had not previously been able to have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has been a strange time, but in many ways I don\u2019t think it\u2019s about my book,\u201d Kobabe said. \u201cI think it\u2019s more about the social media moment that we\u2019re in and the divisiveness of political opinions in this country right now,\u201d Kobabe declared, adding, \u201cDon\u2019t let this make you afraid. \u2026 I know it is a scary moment and the attacks definitely can be very intimidating, but I think it\u2019s so important to stand by your truth and tell your story honestly and write what you need to write, what you feel called to write\u2026.Please don\u2019t let the threat of censorship silence your voice before you\u2019ve even spoken.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
