(Photo by Evan Agostini\/Invision\/AP)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Smaller companies that utilize these platforms are warning lawmakers that passing antitrust bills that could limit the influence of the tech giants could end up hurting the businesses that rely on the platforms. Meanwhile, trade groups backed by Google and Amazon are claiming that the antitrust bills could see services like Amazon Prime and Google Docs ended.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Kristin Rae, the founder of Inspire Travel Luggage, a vendor that sells its products primarily on Amazon, commented:&nbsp;\u201cI\u2019m glad in this case Amazon is deploying people like me. Because maybe we are the ones who can get through to lawmakers and say, \u2018Wow, my job or position or brand could be in danger.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rae has appeared in Amazon blog posts and videos and claims to be worried about bills like the one proposed by&nbsp;Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) that would prevent tech giants from favoring their own products in online markets. Amazon claims that doing so could force them to shut down its third-party marketplace.<\/p>\n<p>Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2021\/07\/02\/report-big-tech-uses-small-businesses-to-push-d-c-agenda\/\">reported on similar efforts<\/a> by the big tech firms in July, writing:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>With their brands in tatters and public trust declining, the Big Tech Masters of the Universe are using small businesses to push their agenda in Washington DC, according to a new report from a left-wing think tank.<\/p>\n<p>The tech giants use these small companies to write letters to lawmakers and regulators warning them that regulating Big Tech will hurt small businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Via the Tech Transparency Project:<\/p>\n<p>For a self-described family-style company in Grandview, Missouri, that fixes water heaters, sewer lines, and frozen pipes, Morgan Miller Plumbing has a lot of opinions about the country\u2019s biggest tech firms\u2014and why they shouldn\u2019t face new rules and regulations.<\/p>\n<p>The plumbing company\u2019s CEO wrote to a newspaper warning that if Congress restricts how internet companies collect data, it could \u201churt our company and millions more small businesses that use these platforms and tools.\u201d She excoriated Missouri\u2019s attorney general for joining the antitrust lawsuit against Google.<\/p>\n<p>The company even popped up in Facebook\u2019s recent public relations campaign against Apple\u2019s new iPhone privacy update, with founder Jeff Morgan saying the changes would add \u201cinsult to injury\u201d by forcing his business to spend more after a tough 2020.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Read more at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/01\/04\/amazon-google-thwart-antitrust-bills-526460\">Politico here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-107 paragraph-0-2-12\"><strong><i>Lucas Nolan is a reporter for Breitbart News covering issues of free speech and online censorship.
