I just think that there\u2019s no need for him to have the intelligence briefing. What value is giving him an intelligence briefing? What impact does he have at all, other than the fact he might slip and say something?<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Five days before Trump left office, Susan M. Gordon, principle deputy director for national intelligence between 2017 and 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/sue-gordon-trump-intelligence-briefings-former-president\/2021\/01\/15\/94b15c72-5747-11eb-a817-e5e7f8a406d6_story.html\">argued<\/a> that Trump shouldn\u2019t be given access to regular classified briefings because of his \u201cpost-White House security profile.\u201d Gordon, who noted that all former presidents can be targeted by bad actors, argued that Trump would be \u201cunusually vulnerable\u201d to them because he wants to stay \u201cengaged in politics and policy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition, Trump has significant business entanglements that involve foreign entities. Many of these current business relationships are in parts of the world that are vulnerable to intelligence services from other nation-states. And it is not clear that he understands the tradecraft to which he has been exposed, the reasons the knowledge he has acquired must be protected from disclosure, or the intentions and capabilities of adversaries and competitors who will use any means to advance their interests at the expense of ours,\u201d wrote Gordon for The Washington Post.<\/p>\n<p>Gordon argued that Trump can always receive classified information on a \u201cneed to know\u201d basis, should it serve the U.S. at \u201csome point in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>Currently, the other four living U.S. presidents \u2014 Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama \u2014 receive the intelligence briefings as a courtesy and in case an incumbent president wants advice,<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/02\/05\/us\/politics\/biden-trump-intelligence-briefings.html\"><span>reports<\/span><\/a> <span>The New York Times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Earlier this week, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the idea of<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-considering-not-giving-trump-intelligence-briefings\"><span>withholding intelligence briefings from Trump<\/span><\/a> <span>was \u201cunder review.\u201d Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, has been more definitive on the topic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThere\u2019s no circumstance in which this president should get another intelligence briefing, not now, not in the future,\u201d Schiff told CBS News\u2019 \u201cFace The Nation\u201d host Margaret Brennan, who asked whether he would advise the White House to end Trump\u2019s access to intelligence briefings. \u201cI don\u2019t think he can be trusted with it now and in the future, he certainly can\u2019t be trusted. Indeed, there were, I think, any number of intelligence partners of ours around the world who probably started withholding information from us because they didn\u2019t trust the president would safeguard that information and protect their sources and methods. And that makes us less safe.
