(Photo by Greg Nash-Pool\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Over 700 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/01\/04\/jan-6-insurrection-sentencing-tracker-526091\">people<\/a> have been arrested as a result of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/23\/trump-january-6-riot-meadows-bannon\/\">riot<\/a>, with some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonian.com\/2022\/01\/05\/the-january-sixers-have-their-own-unit-at-the-dc-jail-heres-what-life-is-like-inside\/\">remaining<\/a> in D.C. jail as they await trial. One person \u2013 Ashli Babbitt \u2013 was <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/25\/cop-shot-ashli-babbitt-reveal-identity\/\">shot and killed<\/a> during the Jan. 6 riot after she tried to enter the U.S. House Chamber. No officers died on that day, though Capital Police officer Brian Sicknick died Jan. 7 after physically engaging with rioters during the event.<\/p>\n<p>D.C.\u2019s chief medical examiner determined Sicknick died of natural causes after having two strokes, and suffered from no internal or external injuries. Two other officers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/january-6-capitol-riot-victims-deaths-brian-sicknick-ashli-babbitt-police-suicide-1665815\">committed<\/a> suicide several days after Jan. 6 and two more in July. Two pro-Trump supporters died during the riot of natural causes after suffering from&nbsp;hypertensive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, Newsweek <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/january-6-capitol-riot-victims-deaths-brian-sicknick-ashli-babbitt-police-suicide-1665815\">noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Just under 3,000 people died as a result of the September 11 attacks, which saw terrorists hijack four planes. Two planes were flown into the World Trade Center in New York City, a third hit the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the fourth crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after Americans on board fought back against the terrorists.<\/p>\n<p>September 11 began the War on Terror in Afghanistan and resulted in the passage of the Patriot Act less than two months later. The Patriot Act marked a fundamental shift in the United States\u2019 handling of terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>December 7, 1941 saw Japanese planes attack the U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor. Over 2,300 Americans were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/item\/today-in-history\/december-07\/\">killed<\/a> as a result of the attack, with the U.S.S Arizona being destroyed and the U.S.S Oklahoma capsizing.
