He <a href=\"https:\/\/newyork.cbslocal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14578484\/2022\/01\/Day-One-Letter-Policies-1.03.2022.pdf\">cited<\/a> \u201cresearch\u201d claiming that \u201cafter a certain length, longer sentences do not deter crime or result in greater community safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The UK Daily Mail reported that Bragg\u2019s announcement was greeted with shock and outrage by law enforcement groups:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<p>His sweeping changes call on prosecutors to ditch felony armed robbery charges and instead charge suspects with petty larceny \u2013 a misdemeanor which carries a maximum of one year in prison \u2013 even when a weapon is involved if the firearm did not \u201ccreate a genuine risk of physical harm.\u201d<br \/>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>NYPD unions, New York Republicans and angry residents were left dumbfounded amid growing fears that the crime-ravaged city will experience the same fate as other progressive-run bastions on the West Coast that have been plagued by looting and lawlessness.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Why doesn\u2019t Bragg just give the drug dealers business cards telling everyone they\u2019re open for business, what their hours are, and what they charge?\u2019 Detectives Endowment Association President Paul DiGiacomo said in a statement on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Curtis Sliwa, the Republican mayoral candidate who lost to Adams by a landslide, told DailyMail.com on Wednesday: \u201cIt\u2019s an advertisement for criminals. He left office in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityandstateny.com\/policy\/2021\/12\/de-blasios-final-nypd-briefing-marked-surge-serious-crimes\/187401\/\">middle<\/a> of \u201csurging murders, robberies and hate crimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Joel B.
