Canberra vowed Thursday to deport him if a late legal appeal fails.<\/p>\n<p>The Serbian tennis player, currently ranked number one in the world, produced a vaccine medical exemption to enter Australia upon landing. This was denied by border officials, as Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/sports\/2022\/01\/05\/we-will-fight-them-in-the-streets-djokovic-dad-says-australia-holding-son-captive-over-vaccines\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>It is currently unclear why Djokovic was rejected by the Australian Border Force (ABF) after initially being granted the exemption by&nbsp;Tennis Australia and the Victoria state government.<\/p>\n<p>The clearance was needed so he could play at the&nbsp;first Grand Slam tennis tournament of the season at the Australian Open on the 17th of January 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Djokovic will now be held in Melbourne until Monday after launching a last-minute bid in the Federal Circuit Court to stop the federal government from deporting him before the tournament begins, the <em>Sydney Morning Herald<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/sport\/tennis\/novak-djokovic-launches-court-bid-to-fight-deportation-20220106-p59mdp.html\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Lawyers for the Serbian star appeared in an online hearing after he had his visa cancelled and was sent to an immigration detention center.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19381306\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2022\/01\/GettyImages-1237560754.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-19381306\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/GettyImages-1237560754-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"990\" height=\"660\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Members of the local Serbian community gather for a vigil outside a hotel where Serbia\u2019s tennis champion Novak Djokovic is reported to be staying in Melbourne on January 6, 2022, after Australia said it had cancelled Djokovic\u2019s entry visa after having failed to \u201cprovide appropriate evidence\u201d of double vaccination or a medical exemption. He was then moved to a hotel controlled by the ABF.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Djokovic, the ABF said the player \u201cfailed to provide appropriate evidence to meet the entry requirements to Australia, and his visa has been subsequently cancelled\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNon-citizens who do not hold a valid visa on entry or who have had their visa cancelled&nbsp;will be detained and removed from Australia\u201d, they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abf.gov.au\/newsroom-subsite\/Pages\/statement-on-mr-novak-djokovic-06-01-2022.aspx\">continued<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Currently you can only enter Australian if you are fully vaccinated or have a medical exemption for not being vaccinated, as Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison confirmed:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Mr Djokovic\u2019s visa has been cancelled. Rules are rules, especially when it comes to our borders. No one is above these rules.
