For example, a facility may opt for a&nbsp;COVID-19 positive&nbsp;worker to only care for COVID-19 positive patients,\u201d Department of Health (DOH) spokesman Joseph Wendelken&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.providencejournal.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2022\/01\/01\/rhode-island-heathcare-workers-covid-positive-permitted-facility-staffing-crisis\/9066882002\/\">told<\/a> the <em>Providence Journa<\/em>l this weekend.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Eleanor Slater Hospital employees received a memo on Friday saying, \u201cThose who are exposed or have a positive Covid test but are asymptomatic\u201d can go to work in a crisis staffing situation if they wear N95 masks.<\/p>\n<p>The state-run hospital \u201cutilized two asymptomatic COVID-positive staff members on Saturday, Jan. 1, and three on Monday, Jan. 3,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.providencejournal.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2022\/01\/03\/ri-covid-hospitalization-surge-eleanor-slater-hospital-staffing-crisis-staff-covid-can-work\/9076989002\/\">according<\/a> to a spokesman.<\/p>\n<p>Wendelken additionally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.providencejournal.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2022\/01\/01\/rhode-island-heathcare-workers-covid-positive-permitted-facility-staffing-crisis\/9066882002\/\">told<\/a> the <em>Journal&nbsp;<\/em>officials would rather sick staff go in to work because unvaccinated healthcare workers are reportedly \u201cat greater individual risk, given how many COVID-19 positive patients are in facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cAdditionally, someone who is vaccinated and who tested positive for COVID-19 has a much lower viral load, compared to someone who is COVID positive and unvaccinated. This means that the likelihood of transmission is much less.\u201d He added that Rhode Islands is \u201cimplementing the CDC\u2019s updated quarantine and isolation guidance\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a tweet this week,&nbsp;State Senator Jessica de la Cruz said the state should \u201cadmit its mistake\u201d in firing healthy unvaccinated staff.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">RIDOH will allow healthcare staff who test positive w\/COVID to work but not unvaxxed healthcare staff who test negative?!  <\/p>\n<p>Its time for the state to admit its mistake.
