While some doctors and patients feel that the governmental health agencies haven\u2019t moved quickly enough to protect these individuals, the risks to such dosing are not fully known.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">On Sunday, Israel\u2019s Prime Minister Naftali Bennett <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/01\/03\/world\/israel-will-offer-a-4th-covid-shot-to-people-60-and-over.html\">stated<\/a> that the country would be providing a fourth shot of the COVID-19 vaccine to people who are 60 years old or above. The shots will also be offered to medical employees.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe Omicron wave is here,\u201d Bennett said in a televised press conference. He said the move to to give a fourth dose to certain people who got their final shot at least four months prior would give Israel \u201ca new layer of protection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/2022\/01\/04\/israel-fourth-shot-booster\/\">reported<\/a>, \u201c[a] fourth shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech&nbsp;coronavirus&nbsp;vaccine generated a fivefold boost in antibodies a week after the jab, according to preliminary results of a study made public by the Israeli government Tuesday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In the United States, the CDC said in October that immunocompromised individuals could get a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cdc-says-immunocompromised-may-get-fourth-covid-shot\">reported<\/a> at the time, \u201c[t]he&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/covid-19\/clinical-considerations\/covid-19-vaccines-us.html#considerations-covid19-vax-immunocopromised\">new guidance<\/a>&nbsp;applies to moderately or severely immunocompromised people who have already received their original two shots of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine as well as a third shot of one of those mRNA vaccines. The immunocompromised may get a fourth booster dose six months after their original COVID-19 vaccination.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIn such situations, people who are moderately and severely immunocompromised may receive a total of four COVID-19 vaccine doses,\u201d the CDC said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Providers are required to sign a legal agreement in order to take part in the CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Program. If they go against the guidelines of the agency, they could reportedly be removed from the program and even be prosecuted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As NPR <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/health-shots\/2021\/09\/02\/1033299418\/cdc-warns-against-off-label-use-of-covid-vaccine\">reported<\/a> in September, the CDC warned providers against giving out vaccine doses against the guidance of the government since they could be sued or patients could have to deal with unanticipated bills.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThese so-called \u2018off-label\u2019 uses include giving the vaccine out as a booster shot to people who are not immunocompromised, or using it to vaccinate children under the age of 12 for whom the shot is not yet authorized,\u201d NPR reported at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Around 1.14 million people had gotten one or more extra COVID-19 doses, according to CDC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/acip\/meetings\/downloads\/slides-2021-08-13\/02-COVID-Dooling-508.pdf\">data<\/a> from August, before boosters had been approved for adults.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">While some note that there may not be a risk for people to get additional doses, others add that receiving additional shots too close together \u201ccould be counterproductive, according to Shane Crotty, a professor at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology\u2019s Center for Infectious Disease and Vaccine Research,\u201d per The Times.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The outlet noted, \u201cThis is because the immune system\u2019s long-term memory seems to perform better if it can rest between two vaccines, he explained, and the body takes months to perfect its antibody-making process after an initial vaccination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The report comes as Americans question the extent of booster requirements and the effect such efforts will have on public policy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Top U.S. immunologist Dr. Anthony Fauci discussed the meaning of \u201cfully vaccinated\u201d on Tuesday, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fauci-finally-tells-america-what-fully-vaccinated-means\">reported<\/a> by The Daily Wire.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe\u2019re using the terminology now \u2018keeping your vaccinations up to date,\u2019 rather than what \u2018fully vaccinated\u2019 means,\u201d Fauci said during a National Institutes of Health&nbsp;lecture Tuesday,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/news.bloomberglaw.com\/health-law-and-business\/up-to-date-shots-replacing-term-fully-vaccinated-fauci-says\">according<\/a>&nbsp;to Bloomberg News. \u201cRight now, optimal protection is with a third shot of an mRNA or a second shot of a J&amp;J.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Daily Wire noted, \u201cFauci\u2019s comments followed word from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday that third shots of Pfizer-BioNTech\u2019s Covid-19 vaccine should be administered within five months after completing the initial two-shot series.
