Tony Evers (D-Wis.) is receiving backlash for reissuing a statewide mask order. The Wisconsin governor issued the order on Thursday, defying the Republican-controlled Legislature\u2019s vote to repeal his previous mandate to wear face coverings in public places.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">That&#8217;s why I am once again issuing a statewide public health emergency and order requiring face coverings. Wearing a mask is the most basic thing we can do to keep each other safe. Wearing a mask saves lives. Let&#8217;s keep working together, Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Tony Evers (@GovEvers) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovEvers\/status\/1357429633982091266?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 4, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Wisconsin State Assembly <a href=\"https:\/\/legis.wisconsin.gov\/assembly\/republicans\/media\/2021\/letter-to-evers-on-mask-rulemaking.pdf\">released a statement<\/a>, saying Evers has abused his limited authority for far too long by repeatedly issuing unlawful orders.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Overturning the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovEvers?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@GovEvers<\/a> emergency order is not about masks. People should wear masks to protect themselves &amp; others. Statute 323.10 is clear that an order shall not exceed 60 days without consent of the legislature, which he didn&#8217;t seek. Steve Nass (R-Wis.) is drafting another resolution to repeal the governor\u2019s new order.
