The Select Committee\u2019s business meetings so far have been held in the evening, and that\u2019s certainly an option \u2026 for future hearings.<\/p>\n<p>The committee has only held one public <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/27\/capitol-riot-police-officers-testify-violence-destruction-michael-fanone\/\">hearing<\/a> so far, featuring four law enforcement officers who protected the Capitol. However, it has collected more than 300 witnesses and collected more than 35,000 pages of documents, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/capital-siege-steve-bannon-elections-donald-trump-congress-bab0144274d996171b7160e051b29a75\">according<\/a> to the Associated Press. (Photo by Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Most congressional hearings are conducted during normal business hours, and streamed on C-SPAN, so the decision to hold an evening hearing could be viewed as unusual.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman Bennie Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220105025442\/https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-01-04\/capitol-riot-panel-weighs-televised-hearings-during-prime-time\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> Bloomberg that the committee could hold a \u201cseries of hearings,\u201d adding that doing so would allow viewers \u201cto hear from people under oath about what led up to Jan. 6th, and to some degree, what has continued after Jan. 6.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/23\/trump-january-6-riot-meadows-bannon\/\">(RELATED: Jan. 6 Committee Issues First Subpoenas To Four Trump Aides, Allies)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the riot, the committee has investigated former President Donald Trump\u2019s broader efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. It released notes and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/investigations\/phil-waldron-mark-meadows-powerpoint\/2021\/12\/11\/4ea67938-59df-11ec-9a18-a506cf3aa31d_story.html\">documents<\/a> taken and viewed by advisors to Trump, as well as federal officials, detailing ways to stop the counting of electoral votes. It has also reviewed an alleged <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/12\/06\/politics\/marc-short-pence-aide-january-6-committee\/index.html\">effort<\/a> to pressure Vice President Mike Pence into refusing to count certain states\u2019 votes.<\/p>\n<p>Most Republicans have opposed the committee\u2019s activities, with Indiana Rep. Jim Banks <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/11\/10\/j6-committee-misleading-witnesses-about-republican-staff-presence\/\">arguing<\/a> that it is illegitimate under House rules due to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/21\/nancy-pelosi-rejects-two-republicans-january-6-select-committee-jim-jordan-jim-banks-capitol-riot\/\">removal<\/a> of him and Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan from the committee.
