The same number of respondents said that they did not believe that the green subsidies would benefit them personally.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>A further 70 per cent revealed that they were concerned with the rising cost of energy during the Christmas holiday period,&nbsp;according to the poll commissioned by campaign group Net Zero Watch, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/politics\/2022\/01\/03\/soaring-energy-bills-put-britons-paying-higher-taxes-save-planet\/\">reported<\/a> by <em>The Telegraph<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the poll, Conservative MP and chairman of the&nbsp;Net Zero Scrutiny Group in the House of Commons, Craig Mackinlay told the broadsheet: \u201cAs I\u2019ve been saying for some time, I didn\u2019t become a Conservative to make my constituents colder and poorer. It\u2019s clear, looking at these survey figures, that the British public are not signed up to the Government\u2019s plans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey feel they haven\u2019t been consulted or had their say. The majority don\u2019t feel that government grants for air pumps or electric cars are either relevant to them, or more fundamentally needed to nudge them towards unreliable technologies they don\u2019t want. And there is real worry about the ever-increasing costs of energy bills this winter.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Tory MP and head of the Net Zero Scrutiny Group\u2019s steering committee, Steve Baker added: \u201cThe cost of net-zero could deliver a political crisis greater than the Poll Tax, and these figures show that the Government is heading straight for such an eventuality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe British people are clearly deeply unhappy about paying higher taxes to help reach net-zero targets and feel they haven\u2019t been consulted about Britain, as the price cap set by the nation\u2019s energy regulator, Ofgem, rose to an average of \u00a31,277 for dual fuel (energy and gas) bills, <em>The Guardian<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2021\/dec\/28\/why-is-the-uk-facing-an-energy-crisis-and-how-do-we-cope-with-it\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The price cap, which was put in place in 2019 in order to protect the bills of millions of Britons, is expected to continue increasing until at least 2023, with some analysts predicting that it could reach \u00a32,000 by April when Ofgem is set to review the price cap.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Britain\u2019s fourth-biggest supplier, EDF Energy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/9a0a1d6d-3dad-4175-b12a-c61dda6766a9\">told<\/a> the<em> Financial Times<\/em> last week that the cap could \u201ceasily\u201d surpass the \u00a32,000 mark by October.<\/p>\n<p>According to the National Energy Action charity, the increases in energy costs could plunge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2022\/jan\/01\/6m-homes-uk-pay-energy-bills-price-hike-fuel-poverty\">6 million households<\/a> into fuel poverty unless the government steps in to lower the increase of the energy price cap.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Others, including Brexit\u2019s Nigel Farage, have argued for the government to scrap the heavy taxes placed on energy bills used to subsidise supposedly green energy alternatives, which currently accounts for around&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/debate\/article-10366275\/ROSS-CLARK-DOES-green-tax-energy-bill-actually-pay-for.html\">25.5 per cent<\/a> of the average household\u2019s energy bills.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Farage also called for the government to abolish the five per cent VAT placed on energy, a holdover from when the UK was a member of the European Union.<\/p>\n<p>Boris Johnson <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MrHarryCole\/status\/1478379243675529222\">had written that scrapping the tax would be a benefit to the public of leaving the European Union<\/a>, but now he is in power \u2014 and collecting the money generated by taxes \u2014 the Prime Minister seems to have forgotten his pledge.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kqt8BBgVWaY\">video<\/a> released on Sunday, Brexit leader Nigel Farage said that cost of living has now become the \u201ckey issue\u201d in British politics.<\/p>\n<p>The Brexiteer called on the public to lobby their MPs to remove the taxes going to green subsidies on energy bills, saying: \u201cParliament the media are completely out of touch with ordinary folk.<\/p>\n<p>Farage said that the government\u2019s green agenda is \u201cgreat for the rich,\u201d but said that it is \u201ccatastrophic for everybody else and in environmental
