Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Thursday accused Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), who was raped when she was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.postandcourier.com\/politics\/it-took-sc-rep-nancy-mace-25-years-to-share-she-was-raped-she-never\/article_41d432e6-7656-11e9-b200-53a16f53b8a1.html\">16 years old<\/a>,&nbsp;of silencing abuse victims after the freshman GOP congresswoman highlighted the pair\u2019s whereabouts during the breach of the Capitol on Jan. 6.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll I can think of [with] folks like her dishonestly claiming that survivors are exaggerating are the stories of veterans and survivors in my community who deny themselves care they need &amp; deserve bc they internalize voices like hers saying what they went through \u2018wasn\u2019t bad enough,&#8217;\u201d Ocasio-Cortez tweeted in reference to Mace.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">\u201cThis is where the true damage of what [Nancy Mace]&nbsp;<\/span>is doing comes in,\u201d the Democrat charged. \u201cHow many survivors are watching her? Who now, seeing her, won\u2019t get care or will feel further shame or silence? Newsweek, Mace highlighted, claimed that Ocasio-Cortez said rioters were at her door, when Ocasio-Cortez never made such a claim. Newsweek has since issued a correction to its report.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"r-18u37iz\">\u201c[Ocasio-Cortez]&nbsp;<\/span>made clear she didn\u2019t know who was at her door,\u201d the Republican blasted the media on Tuesday. \u201cBreathless attempts by media to fan fictitious news flames are dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy office is 2 doors down,\u201d she added. \u201cInsurrectionists never stormed our hallway. Yesterday and today, being&nbsp;distracted from the work of the&nbsp;people, we have people out of jobs, we have kids&nbsp;that aren\u2019t back in school, we have vaccinations that need to get to&nbsp;vulnerable and compromised Americans so we can stem the tide of COVID-19.&nbsp;I feel like I\u2019m in an episode of \u2018Jerry Springer\u2019 right now.
