Co-founder Lauren Schwer is the associate director of campus ministry at Loyola University in Chicago. Co-founder Oliver Goodrich is Cornell University\u2019s associate dean of students for spirituality and meaning-making.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The retreat was run by secondary school teachers and college administrators as well. Event directors teach or work at Brooklyn Jesuit Prep, DePaul University, Cornell University, Gonzaga, Arrupe College, and Loyola Academy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In light of George Floyd\u2019s murder at the hands of police, secondary schools and universities alike began providing racially-segregated trainings. According to the<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yaf.org\/news\/university-of-kentucky-forces-ras-into-segregated-trainings-white-accountability-space\/\"><span>Young America\u2019s Foundation<\/span><\/a><span>, the University of Kentucky separated its Resident Assistants into separate training groups, \u201cone for RAs who identify as Black, Indigenous, Person of Color and one for RAs who identify as White.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>These trainings have also been popularized in primary and secondary schools. According to<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/racial-equity-programs-seattle-schools\"><span>City Journal<\/span><\/a><span>, Seattle Public Schools (SPS) hosted a training session for teachers in which white teachers were told they \u201cspirit murder\u201d black students.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The central message of the programming in SPS is that white teachers must recognize they \u201care assigned considerable power and privilege in our society\u201d because of their white skin. The training calls on white teachers to reject their so-called \u201cwhiteness\u201d and become dedicated to being an \u201canti-racist educator.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Much of this programming is based on the ideology of \u201ccritical race theory,\u201d which teaches students that America is irredeemably rooted in racism.
