Virginia\u2019s Department of Transportation (VDOT)&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.virginiadot.org\/newsroom\/northern-virginia\/2022\/interstate-95-closed-through-fredericksburg-area1-4-2022.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">acknowledged<\/a>&nbsp;the unprecedented situation and affirmed its commitment to clear the highway:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We know many travelers have been stuck on Interstate 95 in our region for extraordinary periods of time over the past 24 hours, in some cases since Monday morning. This is unprecedented, and we continue to steadily move stopped trucks to make progress toward restoring lanes.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The last drivers were&nbsp;reportedly <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/01\/04\/us\/i-95-closed-snowstorm-winter.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rescued<\/a> by emergency crews Tuesday afternoon after spending over 24 hours stranded in the snowstorm. Notably, U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) was stuck on the highway for 27 hours.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Kaine provided live updates on Twitter as he was stuck on the highway. \u201cI started my normal 2 hour drive to DC at 1pm yesterday,\u201d he said. \u201c19 hours later, I\u2019m still not near the Capitol. My office is in touch with @VaDOT to see how we can help other Virginians in this situation.
