Before I was 21 years old, I had a gun pointed at me six times: three by police officers and three by people who were not police officers. I had a knife to my neck, a semi-automatic gun to my head, and a homicide victim on my doorstep. In my adult life, I have posted bail for family, answered the knock of the warrant squad on my door in the early morning, and watched the challenges of a loved one who was living with me after returning from incarceration. Late last year, during a stretch of multiple shootings within three blocks of my home, I had perhaps the most sobering experience of my life: seeing \u2013\u2013through the eyes of my children\u2013\u2013 the aftermath of a shooting directly in front of our home, as we walked together past yellow crime scene tape, seemingly countless shell casings, and a gun, just to get home.<\/p>\n<p>In large part because of these experiences, I have dedicated my career to the inextricably linked goals of safety and fairness.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>There is a presumption of pre-trial non-incarceration for every case except those with&nbsp;charges of homicide or the death of a victim, a class B violent felony in which a deadly&nbsp;weapon or dangerous instrument causes serious physical injury, sex offenses in Article 130&nbsp;of the Penal Law, domestic violence felonies or charges of PL \u00a7 215.50, public corruption,&nbsp;rackets, or major economic crimes, including any attempt to commit any such offense&nbsp;under Article 110 of the Penal Law. For any charge of attempt to cause serious physical&nbsp;injury with a dangerous instrument, ADAs must obtain the approval of an ECAB<br \/>supervisor to seek pretrial detention.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The Office will not seek a carceral sentence other than for homicide or other cases involving the death of a victim, a class B violent felony in which a deadly weapon causes serious physical injury, domestic violence felonies, sex offenses in Article 130 of the Penal Law, public corruption, rackets, or major economic crimes, including any attempt to commit any such offense under Article 110 of the Penal Law, unless required by law. For any charge of attempt to cause serious physical injury with a dangerous instrument, ADAs must obtain the approval of an ECAB supervisor to seek a carceral sentence.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Prosecutors can only request incarceration in \u201cextraordinary circumstances\u201d and must first receive approval from a supervisor.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19362114\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Alvin-Bragg-Getty-e1641339052279.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19362114\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Alvin-Bragg-Getty-e1641339052279.jpg\" alt=\"Alvin Bragg (Michael M. Santiago\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Bragg was elected in November 2021 with indirect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/03\/soros-captures-another-district-attorneys-office-with-manhattan-win\/\">backing<\/a> from left-wing billionaire George Soros, who gave $1 million to the Color of Change PAC, which spent to elect Bragg.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSoros also donated $1 million to Alvin Bragg\u2019s successful DA campaign in Manhattan, funneling the cash through the Color of Change political action committee, according to public filings,\u201d the&nbsp;<em>New York Post<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/16\/how-george-soros-funded-progressive-das-behind-us-crime-surge\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Soros has spend millions in recent local prosecutorial elections, often backing left-wing radicals against incumbent or moderate Democrats. His involvement has coincided with a massive rise in violent crimes in Democrat-run cities.<\/p>\n<p>New New York City Mayor Eric Adams took office Jan. 1, amid promises to stop the city\u2019s ongoing crime surge.<\/p>\n<p>But Bragg, who won a staggering 83% of the vote, has other ideas about criminal justice, though the two campaigned together.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p>As Breitbart News noted last November:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Bragg ran a campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/07\/06\/likely-manhattan-district-attorney-vows-not-to-prosecute-trespassing-prostitution-resisting-arrest\/\">centering around<\/a> his pro-jailbreak agenda that seeks to end prosecutions for what he calls \u201cminor offenses\u201d such as&nbsp;marijuana misdemeanors, turnstile jumping, trespassing, driving with a suspended license, prostitution, resisting arrest for non-criminal offenses, and obstructing the work of the New York City Police Department.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Likewise, Bragg has said he will reduce \u201cmass incarceration\u201d by recommending no more than 20-year maximum prison sentences \u201cabsent exceptional circumstances.\u201d Bragg, notably, plans to ensure jail release for all suspects accused of crimes in Manhattan except in homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, and felony sex crime cases.<\/p>\n<p>In June, Bragg <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jccoltin\/status\/1403475752805355523?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">was linked<\/a> to Soros after it was revealed that the far-left Color of Change PAC which endorsed his candidacy was receiving millions from the billionaire investor.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Soros had donated about $1 million to the Color of Change PAC which was spending their funds to drive up support in Manhattan for Bragg.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Numerous arrestees, some of them accused of violent crimes, were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/06\/03\/nyc-arsonists-to-be-instantly-freed-from-jail-thanks-to-bail-reform-law\/\">released<\/a> in 2020 and 2021 in New York City as a result of state bail reforms. Some allegedly went on to commit crimes that shocked the public, such as an antisemitic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/crime\/2019\/12\/29\/suspect-in-antisemitic-attack-in-new-york-arrested-for-assault-day-after-release\/\">attack<\/a> in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n<p>The White House has refused on comment on the effect that Democrats\u2019 \u201ccriminal justice reforms\u201d have had at the state and local level in fueling a national crime wave.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@POTUS<\/a> took more executive action to stop gun violence than any President has ever taken in their first year. Yesterday, the Administration built upon this with two important steps to keep guns safely secure and help gun dealers follow the law:<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CC1Hkn8nbs\">https:\/\/t.co\/CC1Hkn8nbs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jen Psaki (@PressSec) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PressSec\/status\/1478397807526649856?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 4, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Instead, Press Secretary Jennifer Psaki boasted Tuesday of the many executive actions that President Joe Biden had taken in 2021 to stop \u201cgun violence,\u201d without noting the contemporaneous rise in violent crime.<\/p>\n<p><em>Joel B.
