You might have Omicron.<\/p>\n<p>New reports say night sweats \u2014 which the Mayo Clinic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/symptoms\/night-sweats\/basics\/definition\/sym-20050768\">defines<\/a> as \u201crepeated episodes of extreme perspiration that may soak your nightclothes or bedding\u201d \u2014 are a \u201cnew strange symptom\u201d of the COVID-19 variant, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2022\/01\/03\/omicron-infections-strange-symptom\/\">according<\/a> to Fortune.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommonly associated with other conditions like the flu, anxiety, or even cancer, night sweats were less commonly associated with COVID before the Omicron variant began to rapidly spread worldwide,\u201d the magazine\u2019s&nbsp; website reported on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNight sweats are one of a few distinct symptoms that appear to separate Omicron from other COVID variants, along with a sore throat. And unlike Delta and the original COVID strain that first hit the U.S., Omicron does not seem to be associated with a loss of smell and taste,\u201d the mag said.<\/p>\n<p>Fortune cited Dr John Torres, NBC News senior medical correspondent, who said on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/today\/amp\/rcna10114\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> on NBC\u2019s \u201cToday\u201d show &nbsp;that night sweats are a \u201cvery strange symptom.\u201d And Dr. Amir Khan of the United Kingdom\u2019s National Health Service also said night sweats may be cause to get a COVID-19 test.<\/p>\n<p>Another recent report said there is a new symptom of Omicron \u2014 or more precisely, a lack of one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome symptoms are the same or very similar, such as the dry cough, but people are being instructed to keep an eye out for some effects which may seem unusual,\u201d The Mirror <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/surprising-new-omicron-covid-variant-25773153\">reported<\/a> last week. \u201cOne strange effect seems to be affecting people with the new variant and may help point towards the virus if some individuals are asymptomatic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The symptom: Loss of appetite.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScientists who are part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/covid.joinzoe.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ZOE COVID Symptom Study<\/a> looked at symptom data from positive cases recorded in the research data and compared it with information from early October when Delta was dominant,\u201d wrote the U.K. paper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople who contributed to the study reported a loss of appetite as one symptom they experienced. \u2026&nbsp;Said contributors were either confirmed or likely to have had the Omicron variant, suggesting that the loss of appetite symptom is more likely to occur when people have Omicron, rather than the Delta variant,\u201d the Mirror said.<\/p>\n<p>The ZOE study, which has been tracking symptoms reported by participants using a smartphone app, reported that the top five symptoms for Omicron are runny nose, headache, fatigue (mild or severe), sneezing, and sore throat. The data were collected between December 3 and 10 in London.<\/p>\n<p>The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), which operates much like the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), found that those who contract Omicron are less likely to become severely ill compared to people who get the Delta variant, according to the data, reports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/newsletter\/london-playbook\/scoop-omicron-milder-in-uk-new-years-fireworks-liz-vs-no-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Politico<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore people are likely to have a mild illness with less serious symptoms \u2014 probably in part due to Britain\u2019s large number of vaccinated and previously infected people, and possibly because Omicron may be intrinsically milder,\u201d Politico reported. \u201cChief Medical Officer Chris Whitty has previously cautioned against too much optimism based on the initial optimistic signs from South Africa in the past few weeks.
