These people are not being treated for the virus, but for their injuries from the accident, yet they are being counted in their COVID hospitalization totals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomeone is in a car accident they go to the emergency room they test positive for COVID while they\u2019re there, they\u2019re not they\u2019re being treated for COVID,\u201d Hochul explained, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whec.com\/coronavirus\/hospitals-to-change-how-they-report-covid-hospitalization-data\/6348257\/?cat=565\">reported<\/a> News 10\u2019s Jennifer Lewke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow someone\u2019s condition can worsen while they\u2019re in the hospital,\u201d the governor continued, \u201cI\u2019m not saying that won\u2019t happen, but I\u2019ve just been doing a random call around to some of the hospital leaders that I touch base with and I\u2019m seeing numbers from 20% to sometimes 50%.&nbsp;We don\u2019t have clear data right now, that\u2019s anecdotal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Starting Tuesday, hospitals will be asked to report to the state \u201cwhether a patient is in the hospital for COVID-19 or if they&nbsp;tested positive for COVID-19 while being treated for another ailment,\u201d News 10 noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeginning tomorrow [Tuesday] we\u2019re going to be asking all hospitals to break out for us, how many people are being hospitalized because of COVID symptoms, how many people happen to test positive just while they\u2019re in there for other treatments,\u201d Hochul announced. \u201cI think that\u2019s important, I just want to be honest with New Yorkers about how bad this is. Yes, the number of people infected is high but I want to see whether or not the hospitalizations correlate with that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hochul, true to her consistent alarmism on COVID, said during the same briefing,&nbsp;\u201cWe\u2019re not in a good place, I\u2019m going to be really honest with you\u2026 this is the winter surge we predicted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Dr. Anthony Fauci essentially admitted to the same, but only for children patients. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fauci-now-says-hospitals-are-overcounting-covid-19-cases-in-children-because-they-automatically-get-tested-sound-familiar\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<p><em>Dr. Anthony Fauci provided some insight regarding the accuracy of metrics used for counting positive COVID-19 cases in children. On Wednesday night, Fauci told MSNBC\u2019s Ayman Mohyeldin that since all children are tested for COVID-19 when they enter a hospital, regardless of the reason they are there, that many children are hospitalized \u201cwith COVID\u201d rather than \u201cbecause of COVID.\u201d Because of that, some COVID-19 cases can be \u201cover counted,\u201d Fauci said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst of all, quantitatively, you\u2019re having so many more people, including children, who are getting infected. And even though hospitalization among children is much, much lower on a percentage basis than hospitalizations for adults, particularly elderly individuals,\u201d Fauci said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/healthcare\/broken-leg-anthony-fauci-child-covid-19-hospitalizations-overblown\">according<\/a> to the Washington Examiner. \u201cWhen you have such a large volume of infections among children, even with a low level of rate of infection, you\u2019re going to still see a lot more children who get hospitalized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the other important thing is that if you look at the children who are hospitalized, many of them are hospitalized with COVID as opposed to because of COVID,\u201d the bureaucrat continued. \u201cAnd what we mean by that \u2014 if a child goes in the hospital, they automatically get tested for COVID. And they get counted as a COVID-hospitalized individual. When in fact, they may go in for a broken leg or appendicitis or something like that.
