Biden spoke with independent farmers and ranchers Monday afternoon as well regarding the new plan. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/11\/patel-biden-reckless-spending-inflation-undoing\/\">(RELATED:&nbsp;PATEL: Biden\u2019s Truly Reckless Spending Will Likely Be His Undoing)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve said it before and I\u2019ll say it again: Capitalism without competition isn\u2019t capitalism. It\u2019s exploitation. That\u2019s what we\u2019re seeing in the meat and poultry \u2026 industries now,\u201d Biden said during the virtual meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The White House, in a fact sheet detailing <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/08\/biden-meat-inflation-coronavirus-pandemic\/\">Biden\u2019s<\/a> four-step plan, called the meat and poultry processing sector \u201ca textbook example\u201d of an industry \u201cdominated by a handful of large companies that control most of the business and most of the opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/26\/joe-biden-greenhouse-gas-emission-reduction-red-meat-ban-fake\/\">administration<\/a> argued that this is \u201craising prices and decreasing options for American families\u201d and said the \u201clack of competition [is] hurting consumers, producers, and our economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7346590\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7346590\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 JANUARY 03: U.S. President Joe Biden speaks during a virtual meeting about reducing the costs of meat through increased competition in the meat processing industry in the South Court Auditorium at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on January 3, 2022 in Washington, DC. (Photo by Sarah Silbiger\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The $1 billion comes from the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill passed by Congress in 2021, and the U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) plans to allocate the money towards specific efforts. Specifically, the USDA is providing up to $375 million in grants to produce more independent processing plants, $275 million as a partnership with lenders who will give out loans and support businesses, and $100 million to improve the workforce, among other projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRoundtable participants described how lack of competition in the meat and poultry supply chain impacts their businesses and their lives, and the challenges they face because a few large companies dominate the processing markets,\u201d the White House said in a readout of Biden\u2019s meeting after its conclusion. \u201cThe farmers and ranchers explained that they are often at the mercy of just a few buyers who determine the price they receive, and that even as these conglomerates raise prices at the grocery stores, they push down prices for farmers and ranchers, taking wealth out of rural communities and hurting consumers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/cpi.nr0.htm\">data<\/a> indicates that the price for beef in November had risen 20.9% from the previous year. Inflation has also hit consumers hard, hitting the highest level in 39 <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/10\/inflation-consumer-price-index-joe-biden-jerome-powell-bureau-labor-statistics\/\">years<\/a> in November.<\/p>\n<p>Some, like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, criticized the Biden administration\u2019s decision to allocate $1 billion in funding to try and solve meat prices, calling it \u201cmisguided\u201d in a statement issued Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"f-body-1\" data-component=\"uscc:block:paragraph\">\u201cLike so many other products, the factors driving meat prices higher include increased demand, COVID-related supply chain disruptions, and increased input costs, especially higher energy and labor costs,\u201d Neil Bradley, U.S. Chamber of Commerce\u2019s executive vice president and chief policy officer, said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uschamber.com\/security\/supply-chain\/u-s-chamber-objects-to-misguided-administration-efforts-to-address-meat-prices\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"f-body-1\" data-component=\"uscc:block:paragraph\">\u201cOne has to ask, if, as the administration asserts, consolidation in meat and other industries has been a problem for years and it is also driving the current surge in prices, then why didn\u2019t it drive prices higher before?
