Ron Johnson (R) to run for reelection.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats want to see the incumbent run for a third term because they see him in a vulnerable position. In contrast, Republicans see him as \u201ca battle-tested incumbent who has twice proven his mettle in a key swing state,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/587775-wisconsin-democrats-republicans-both-want-ron-johnson-to-run?rl=1\">report<\/a> from the&nbsp;<em>Hill.<\/em> The Democrats, as it stands currently, have the majority even though the chamber split evenly, 50-50, between the two sides, but the Democrats have Vice President Kamala Harris as a tie-breaker vote when needed.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Johnson, an avid supporter of former President Donald Trump, has made a name for himself when running campaigns. In 2010, he won against then-Sen.&nbsp;Russ Feingold (D), causing a major upset to the three-time incumbent when he ran as a political outsider and won. In 2016, he was again written off when he ran for reelection and won by three points in a rematch against Feingold.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you will find almost every Republican in Wisconsin and outside of Wisconsin wanting Ron Johnson to run because of what\u2019s at stake, and that\u2019s the majority of the Senate for Republicans,\u201d&nbsp;Brandon Scholz, a GOP operative in Wisconsin, told the <em>Hill.<\/em>&nbsp;\u201cIf he doesn\u2019t run, that makes it more difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Should Johnson run, whichever side is right about him would have a leg up in Wisconsin\u2019s hyper competitive Senate race, where a victory could be key to controlling the entire upper chamber, which is currently split 50-50.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sjUzmEo36H\">https:\/\/t.co\/sjUzmEo36H<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Hill (@thehill) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/thehill\/status\/1477968011944464386?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>A&nbsp;Wisconsin Democrat consultant, Ben Nuckels, said, \u201cIf Republicans want to see him run, I\u2019ll agree with them on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nuckels, wanting a Democrat to win, added, \u201cJohnson is what you get when QAnon and the Tea Party have a baby\u2026 His candidacy makes the race far more competitive for Democrats.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some Democrats believe Johnson\u2019s past comments on&nbsp;coronavirus could be used against him on the campaign trail. A Wisconsin Democrat strategist, Scot Ross, thinks his comments would&nbsp;play a key role in defining Johnson during the campaign, \u201cIt\u2019s unbelievable the things that he says when it comes to denying science and really putting people at serious risk of death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, midterm elections are typically seen as a referendum on the president\u2019s party, of which Johnson is not a part. One&nbsp;Wisconsin GOP operative told the&nbsp;<em>Hill,<\/em>&nbsp;\u201cDemocrats have such a massive amount of misplaced hope here. At this point, Ron Johnson is basically running a heartbreak hotel for the Democrats every six years in Wisconsin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), Lizzie Litlow, said the committee is \u201chopeful and optimistic\u201d he will run again and would be their support behind him.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson has yet to announce if he will run again but&nbsp;reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/586587-thune-johnson-say-decisions-on-reelection-bids-expected-soon\">said<\/a> in December he would decide shortly.
