They were shot down without incident,&#8217;\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/drone-attack-us-base-foiled-iraqi-security-sources-say-2022-01-03\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> stated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__text___3eVx1j Text__dark-grey___AS2I_p Text__regular___Bh17t- Text__large___1i0u1F Body__base___25kqPt Body__large_body___3g04wK ArticleBody__element___3UrnEs\" data-testid=\"paragraph-4\">\u201cThis was a dangerous attack on a civilian airport,\u201d the coalition official also said, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-4\">No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Footage from the debris revealed that one of the drones had the words \u201cSoleimani\u2019s revenge\u201d written on the wing in Arabic.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/middle-east\/20220103-two-armed-drones-shot-down-at-baghdad-airport?ref=tw_i\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">France 24<\/a> added, \u201cTwo fixed-wing suicide drones, or improvised cruise missiles, attempted to attack&nbsp;Baghdad Airport this morning at approximately 4:30 am\u201d (0130 GMT), the official told AFP.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report also said that a C-RAM system took down the threat \u201cwithout incident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA counter-rocket, artillery and mortar, or C-RAM, system \u2018at the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center engaged them and they were shot down without incident,\u2019 added the source, speaking on condition of anonymity,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n<p>January 3 marked the two-year anniversary of the assassination of Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force Commander Qasem Soleimani by a U.S. drone strike at the Baghdad airport ordered by then-President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the end of the U.S. combat mission in Iraq, about 2,500 troops remain in the country \u201cto advise and assist Iraqi security forces,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/587979-drones-approaching-us-troops-in-iraq-shot-down\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also on Monday, two Israeli media outlets were hacked in an effort apparently inspired by the anniversary of Soleimani\u2019s killing. Both the Jerusalem Post website and Twitter account and the Twitter account of Maariv were taken over with an image added that showed the destruction of Israel\u2019s Dimona nuclear reactor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are close to you where you do not think about it,\u201d the image said in both Hebrew and English, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allisrael.com\/jpost-maariv-targeted-by-pro-iranian-hackers-with-photo-of-nuclear-explosion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AllIsrael.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-u-s-kills-two-top-iranian-military-leaders-bigger-than-bin-laden-al-baghdadi-reports-say\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> in 2020, U.S. military forces reportedly killed two top Iranian military commanders involved in terrorism in Iraq in an airstrike in what analysts said was a significantly bigger deal than the killing of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi:<\/p>\n<p><em>Iranian Major-General Qasem Soleimani, head of the Quds Force, and Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were the two Iranian military leaders who were killed. Al-Muhandis was in charge of the Iranian-linked Popular Mobilization Forces.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>BBC reporter Ali Hashem reported: \u201cMy sources suggesting that commander of IRGC Quds force Qassem Suleimani and Deputy chief of PMU Abu Mahdi AlMuhandes were in the convoy hit by the U.S. airstrike near Baghdad airport Iraq.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Five days after the Soleimani strike, Iran <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/irans-foreign-minister-we-do-not-seek-escalation-or-war-irans-supreme-leader-military-actions-not-enough\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fired missiles<\/a> at two locations, including Irbil in northern Iraq:<\/p>\n<p><em>In a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/Newsroom\/Releases\/Release\/Article\/2052103\/dod-statement-on-iranian-ballistic-missile-attacks-in-iraq\/\">statement<\/a>&nbsp;issued shortly after the attacks, the Pentagon provided some details on Iran\u2019s strikes. \u201cAt approximately 5:30 p.m. (EST) on January 7, Iran launched more than a dozen ballistic missiles against U.S. military and coalition forces in Iraq,\u201d the Defense Department announced. \u201cIt is clear that these missiles were launched from Iran and targeted at least two Iraqi military bases hosting U.S. military and coalition personnel at Al-Assad and Irbil.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>According to Iraqi military officials, Iran fired a total of 22 missiles at two of the military bases in Iraq where U.S. personnel are stationed, the Times reported.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
