Hakeem Jeffries (N.Y.) is the early favorite to become the next Democratic leader, but the maneuvering for power has just begun,\u201d the publication reported, also mentioning as potential candidates Rep. Scott Applewhite).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI think we want leadership that bridges some of the different ideological wings of the party, that is committed to listening to all of the perspectives, that will be capable of helping move the Senate or things that have stalled in the House,\u201d Khanna told the <em>Post<\/em>. \u201cBut whoever it is, I hope they would adopt progressive positions and also listen to the broad caucus and build consensus.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Though more senior members of the Democrat Party may be favored to win the speakership, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) on January 3, 2019 (AP Photo\/Jose Luis Magana).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">\u201cI think there was a \u2018holding of power\u2019 model that worked very well for a long time, and I think now it is more about a recognition of different centers of focus within the Democratic caucus that have to be brought in and brought together,\u201d Jayapal told the <em>Post<\/em>. \u201cIt takes some acceptance of more-decentralized leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rumors of Pelosi\u2019s retirement come as two staffers&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/08\/two-staffers-abandon-nancy-pelosi-in-one-week-increasing-retirement-rumors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abandoned<\/a>&nbsp;Pelosi\u2019s office in December, a pattern that suggests Pelosi may retire after the 2022 midterms.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Post<\/em> is not the only media outlet to speculate about Pelosi\u2019s retirement. CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/19\/nancy-pelosis-retirement-rumors-swirl-democrats-swarm-power\/\">reported<\/a> in November Pelosi may honor her promise and retire because of the unlikelihood of the Democrats\u2019 ability to retain the House.<\/p>\n<p>In August<em>, Atlantic<\/em>&nbsp;magazine&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/08\/10\/atlantic-magazine-nancy-pelosi-will-announce-shes-stepping-down\/\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;Pelosi will resign from her leadership role. \u201cS<span class=\"smallcaps\">ometime in the<\/span>&nbsp;not-so-distant future, probably after next year\u2019s midterm elections, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will announce that she\u2019s stepping down\u201d the article read.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans are expected to flip the House by a large margin. With Democrats holding approximately a five-seat advantage, Republicans must win at least six seats to retake the House.
