Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/masked-pupils-640x335-1.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">Parents in Cedar Grove, New Jersey, won a legal battle against their school district after challenging an equity survey that asked students as young as nine years old about their sexual identities and behaviors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe appropriate remedy is to discard the surveys and all results derived therefrom,\u201d administrative Judge Gail Cookson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/us\/nj-school-was-wrong-to-give-survey-asking-kids-about-gender-identity-ruling-finds\/ar-AAScQdg\">said<\/a> in her November 15 decision, explaining the survey as present was neither voluntary, nor did it give parents the opportunity to opt their child out, according to NJ.com.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The initial complaint against the Cedar Grove Schools\u2019 \u201cCommunity Needs Assessment\u201d \u2014 designed by the district\u2019s Equity and Diversity Advisory Council \u2014 was filed with the state Department of Education in July.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-t=\"{&quot;n&quot;:&quot;blueLinks&quot;}\">The survey of roughly eight questions&nbsp;\u201casked students to anonymously share their race\/ethnicity, gender identity, and opinion on several topics \u2014 which varied by grade level,\u201d according to NJ.com, that would ostensibly be used to \u201cexplore previous and present bias to provide tangible solutions for all stakeholders,\u201d per the district\u2019s summary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe District intended to and did actually seek answers from students, who were not told it was voluntary but only anonymous\u2026on the subjects of gender identity, gender discrimination, and for the older students, religion and religious discrimination, and family demographics,\u201d Cookson wrote.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Cookson\u2019s decision that the school board and superintendent violated the law was upheld this month.<\/p>\n<p>The Cedar Grove education officials told NJ Advance Media they \u201cwill take this ruling as advisement and guidance on how to move forward as we reflect on our past practice and continue our pursuit for equity, diversity and inclusion for all children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his reasoning for upholding Cookson\u2019s decision,&nbsp;Assistant Commissioner of Education Kevin Dehmer said that \u201casking students to identify their race and ethnicity on a survey distributed in elementary school classrooms\u201d improperly \u201cinvited students to reveal information that might include their sexual behaviors and attitudes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, Cedar Grove mother and petitioner Patricia Montana told the outlet, \u201cNow parents are anxious about every decision that the district makes because they don\u2019t have faith that they\u2019re going to follow the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parents in the district have other demands as well, including for the school board to issue an acknowledgement of wrongdoing, and the removal of members of the&nbsp;Equity and Diversity Advisory Council who were involved with the survey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-t=\"{&quot;n&quot;:&quot;blueLinks&quot;}\">\u201cThe Assistant Commissioner recognizes and commends the Board\u2019s efforts to explore and address diversity, inclusion, and equity in its schools. However, those efforts cannot outweigh statutory requirements regarding the administration of surveys to students,\u201d Dehmer concluded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-t=\"{&quot;n&quot;:&quot;blueLinks&quot;}\"><em>Breccan F.
