The employees largely weren\u2019t wearing masks either. The footage was shown with the same tone and level of shock that is usually reserved for video of the aftermath from natural disasters.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">WATCH: This shocking video from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SamBrockNBC?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SamBrockNBC<\/a> shows a market in Naples, FL where many customers and employees are not wearing face masks.<\/p>\n<p>Florida does not have a mask mandate, but the CDC has said that wearing masks can help control the Covid pandemic. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WFatRrjnYa\">https:\/\/t.co\/WFatRrjnYa<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IMQJz4p0Ox\">pic.twitter.com\/IMQJz4p0Ox<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The News with Shepard Smith (@thenewsoncnbc) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/thenewsoncnbc\/status\/1357125038772748290?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 4, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cLook at this,\u201d Smith said, \u201cthis was the scene at Oakes Farms Seed to Table Market in Naples today. NBC\u2019s Sam Brock took this video, which went viral. It looks like it was taken pre-pandemic, right? Most customers and employees not wearing masks <em>at all<\/em> (emphasis original).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smith then showed the store\u2019s mask exemption guidelines, which state that \u201cIf you have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing a mask, you are exempt from\u201d wearing one.<\/p>\n<p>It adds: \u201cDue to [the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act] HIPAA and the 4<sup>th<\/sup> Amendment we cannot legally ask you about your medical condition. Therefore, if we see you without a mask, we will assume you have a medical condition and we will welcome you inside to support our business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smith framed this policy as somehow shocking.<\/p>\n<p>Brock questioned the store\u2019s owner about the policy, asking questions designed to show the business owner as unintelligent or believing conspiracy theories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs your position about medical exemptions or is it about the fact that you don\u2019t think masks work and the virus is not a real\u2026 [unintelligible],\u201d Brock asked.<\/p>\n<p>Alfie Oakes, the store owner, responded to the leading questions by saying, \u201cI know that the masks don\u2019t work and I know that the virus has not killed 400,000 people in this country. That\u2019s total hogwash.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smith cut away from whatever else Oakes was about to say to insist that \u201cmasks do work, the science is crystal clear.\u201d Smith then reported that in July 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the United States \u201ccould get COVID under control in four to eight weeks if we would only all wear masks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Florida does not mandate people wear face masks, yet the state with one of the largest senior populations in the country is doing much better, statistically, than many states with mask mandates and government restrictions on businesses.
