But while he stood an imposing figure in the sports world, Madden was also highly successful in another \u2014 the world of gaming.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_15488342\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/MARK-RALSTON_AFP-via-Getty-Images.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15488342\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/MARK-RALSTON_AFP-via-Getty-Images.jpg\" alt=\"John Madden\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">John Madden video game (MARK RALSTON\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/12\/29\/sports\/football\/john-madden-nfl-video-game.html\">outlines<\/a> in a recent article how Madden became the face of the most popular sports video game franchise in history, grossing $7 billion in revenue since 1988. <em>John Madden Football<\/em> debuted on the Apple II computer in 1988 and has since become a staple franchise in the gaming industry.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>NYT<\/em> writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Madden was far more than a figurehead for the gaming franchise, which sold more than 130 million copies in its first 30 years through 2018, according to the company. For a decade Madden, not star athletes like Jerry Rice or Barry Sanders, graced the game\u2019s covers. For early iterations of the game, he lent his broadcasting voice and spent days in a studio recording the color commentary to narrate the simulated games as players controlled their teams.<\/p>\n<p>From the start, he insisted on realism, instructing developers on details as exacting as how a defensive player should be tackling and which stances linemen should use during certain formations.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Trip Hawkins, the founder of video game publisher Electronic Arts commented: \u201cWhatever John says is the final word. He had that kind of presence and the ability to be the commander.
