Tova Noel and Michael Thomas, prison guards at the Metropolitan Correction Center, a federal prison in Manhattan, later admitted to \u201cwillfully and knowingly\u201d falsifying records to make it appear as if they were watching Epstein every 30 minutes after he had been placed on suicide watch. (AP Photo\/Craig Ruttle, File)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cTheir deferred prosecution agreements required that they each perform 100 hours of community service and cooperate with a federal probe arising from Epstein\u2019s death,\u201d the outlet added.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The two Bureau of Prisons employees were indicted in November 2019 for their misconduct while their attorneys&nbsp; \u201csuggested they were being scapegoated by the justice system, which was humiliated that it could not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/tova-noel-and-michael-thomas-guards-who-slept-through-jeffrey-epstein-suicide-get-no-jail-deal\">keep<\/a> the high-profile prisoner safe,\u201d according to the Daily Beast. (AP Photo\/Craig Ruttle, File)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cFor them to pull him off suicide watch is shocking,\u201d Cameron Lindsay, a former warden who worked at three federal facilities, told NBC News. \u201cFor someone this high-profile, with these allegations and this many victims, who has had a suicide attempt in the last few weeks, you can take absolutely no chances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A recent lengthy report by the <em>New York Times&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/11\/23\/nyregion\/jeffrey-epstein-suicide-death.html\">quoted<\/a> a former fellow inmate who&nbsp;emailed the prison\u2019s psychology department \u201cabout a conversation he had with a man whose cell had been next to Mr. Epstein\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The other inmate allegedly told the man, \u201cJeffrey Epstein definitely killed himself. Any conspiracy theories to the contrary are ridiculous,\u201d adding that he had heard Epstein&nbsp;\u201ctearing up his sheet before committing suicide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe wanted to kill himself and seized the opportunity when it was available,\u201d the inmate said. \u201cSuch is life \u2014 or death, in this case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, a jury <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/12\/15\/us\/ghislaine-maxwell-trial-accusers\/index.html\">convicted<\/a> former Epstein accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell for sex trafficking of minors, transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and three counts of conspiracy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. prosecutors have ceased pursuing criminal charges against the two Manhattan jail guards who were watching convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein on the night he killed himself.
