When Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) asked Buffett to intervene, the billionaire entrepreneur declined.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/12\/30\/warren-buffett-tells-bernie-sanders-he-wont-intervene-in-special-metals-strike.html\">CNBC<\/a> explained:<\/p>\n<p>Sanders wrote to Buffett on Tuesday and asked the Berkshire CEO to get involved in talks between United Steelworkers Local 40 and West Virginia-based Special Metals. Precision Castparts, a subsidiary of Buffett\u2019s conglomerate, owns Special Metals.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter dated Tuesday and released by Sanders\u2019 office on Thursday, Buffett told the Vermont independent he would not step into the labor negotiations. He cited Berkshire\u2019s policy of letting its companies \u201cdeal individually with their own labor and personnel decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m passing along your letter to the CEO of Precision Castparts but making no recommendation to him as to any action,\u201d Buffett wrote. \u201cHe is responsible for his business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sanders, however, was miffed by Buffett\u2019s response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Buffett is one of the wealthiest guys on the planet,\u201d the lawmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BernieSanders\/status\/1476657994213597194\">said<\/a> on Twitter. \u201cThere is no reason that steelworkers at Special Metals, a W.V. company that made $1.5 billion in profits last year, should accept an insulting contract that includes significant pay cuts and major cuts to their health care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, Sanders bases his political brand on crusading against wealthy Americans \u2014 despite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/bloomberg-nails-socialist-bernie-youre-a-millionaire-with-3-houses\">owning<\/a> three houses and boasting a net worth in the millions.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Sanders tweeted: \u201cWe must demand that the extremely wealthy pay their fair share. Period.\u201d In response, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk \u2014 who is presently the richest man in the world \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/elon-musk-drags-bernie-after-attack-on-wealthy-i-keep-forgetting-that-youre-still-alive\">said<\/a>, \u201cI keep forgetting that you\u2019re still alive,\u201d adding, \u201cWant me to sell more stock, Bernie? Just say the word.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sanders \u2014 who leads the Senate Budget Committee \u2014 has also been publicly chastising his colleague Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), who recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/let-him-vote-no-in-front-of-the-entire-world-bernie-sanders-says-manchin-doesnt-have-the-guts-to-support-build-back-better\">pulled<\/a> his support from President Biden\u2019s domestic spending agenda. During an interview with CNN anchor Jake Tapper, Sanders argued that his colleague lacks the courage to \u201cstand up to powerful special interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019ll have a lot of explaining to do to the people of West Virginia,\u201d Sanders began. \u201cTo tell them why he doesn\u2019t have the guts to take on the drug companies to lower the cost of prescription drugs, why he is not prepared to expand home health care\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been to West Virginia a number of times, and it\u2019s a great state, beautiful people.
