Biological sex and gender are not binaries. There are no set hormone ranges, body parts, or chromosomes that all people of a particular sex or gender have.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">FACT ONE: Trans girls are girls. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/R5OWNl5ooI\">pic.twitter.com\/R5OWNl5ooI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 ACLU (@ACLU) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ACLU\/status\/1357062150322352131?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 3, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The next two \u201cmyths\u201d the ACLU attempted to bust were that trans athletes have an unfair advantage in sports and that allowing biological men to compete against women could be dangerous.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrans athletes do not have an unfair advantage in sports,\u201d they asserted. \u201cTrans athletes vary in athletic ability just like cisgender athletes. In many states, the very same cis girls who have claimed that trans athletes have an \u2018unfair\u2019 advantage have consistently performed as well as or better than transgender competitors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the claim that biological men competing against biological women could prove problematic, the ACLU assured that \u201cincluding trans athletes will benefit everyone.\u201d Far worse, they claimed, would be to exclude trans women from women\u2019s sports because it would hurt all women. \u201cIt invites gender policing that could subject any woman to invasive tests and accusations of being \u2018too masculine\u2019 or \u2018too good\u2019 at their sport to be a \u2018real\u2019 woman.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">FACT THREE: Including trans athletes will benefit everyone. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/H0Fpt8xb4X\">pic.twitter.com\/H0Fpt8xb4X<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 ACLU (@ACLU) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ACLU\/status\/1357062156576038914?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 3, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The fourth alleged myth the ACLU took to task was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/retired-nfl-player-calls-for-separate-transgender-category-sports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">compromise<\/a> recently floated by retired NFL defensive end Marcellus Wiley, who suggested that trans students simply be placed on their own teams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrans people, like all people, may experience detrimental effects to their physical and emotional wellbeing when they are pushed out of affirming spaces and communities,\u201d they argued. \u201cEfforts to exclude subsets of girls from sports can undermine team unity. And youth derive the most benefits from athletics when they are exposed to caring environments where teammates are supported by each other and by coaches.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ACLU then linked to a <a href=\"https:\/\/action.aclu.org\/petition\/support-trans-student-athletes\/?initms_aff=nat&amp;initms_chan=soc&amp;utm_medium=soc&amp;initms=210203_youthsports_action_tw&amp;utm_source=tw&amp;utm_campaign=youthsports&amp;utm_content=210203_lgbtq_action&amp;ms_aff=nat&amp;ms_chan=soc&amp;ms=210203_youthsports_action_tw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">petition<\/a> that explained how they are suing the state of Idaho for passing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/legislature-brad-little-boise-courts-gender-identity-593957554063ca606e3ae50e68c4a135\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a ban<\/a> on biological men competing on sports teams with biological women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTransgender people have the right to participate in sports consistent with who they are, just like anyone.
