That was one of the most exciting moments of the film for fans, which is why they were so annoyed with Kim Kardashian for spoiling it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now the movie\u2019s screenwriters are sharing exactly why their appearances were so important and how they helped shape the movie. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers spoke with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/spider-man-no-way-home-andrew-garfield-tobey-maguire-1235068153\/\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> about the impact these special appearances had on the film.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Maguire and Garfield] had thoughts, and it was really interesting and helpful to see their thoughts,\u201d Sommers told the publication. \u201cNo one knows the character as well as \u2014 or gives as much thought to the character \u2014 as someone who has to then embody it and sell it. \u2026 It definitely shaped what we did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>THR explained how Maguire wanted to keep revelations about his character minimal while Garfield \u201cembraced exploring the dark path\u201d with his version of Peter Parker following the death of Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) in \u201cAmazing Spider-Man 2.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey had great ideas that really elevated everything we were going for and added layers and an arc and we really actually started honing into the idea that these two guys were really helping Tom\u2019s Peter on his journey to becoming who he ends up becoming,\u201d McKenna told THR.&nbsp; \u201cThere\u2019s a crucial, moral moment that they help him get through in the climax of the movie. So much of that was brought by Tobey and Andrew\u2019s ideas and shaping of what they thought their characters could bring to this story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a way, they literally shaped the movie too by ad-libbing some scenes. \u201cWe reworked the rooftop school scene and all that stuff and there was so much fun improv of those guys,\u201d McKenna told THR.<\/p>\n<p>The writer also described how the two actors weren\u2019t there for \u201cfan-service\u201d but rather added depth to the movie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey weren\u2019t just here to go, \u2018Two awesome Jedi knight heroes who show up and are going to help you take down the bad guys.\u2019 They are going through their own things,\u201d the writer explained.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were trying to write up to the characters that they did such a great job of creating and really being true to those characters and those stories and those worlds so that it didn\u2019t feel like we were doing curtain call, fan-service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the movie has been praised precisely because it does pay service to fans, or at least keeps their interest in mind. It\u2019s also free from the ideological messaging that so many modern films have lately.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo Way Home\u201d shocked industry professionals by becoming the first $1 billion grossing film post-pandemic, even without a concurrent streaming component.
